    Position Title: Director of Hospital Services and Manufacturing

    Department: Executive

    Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

    Position(s) Supervised: Hospital Services/Components Staff, Equipment Specialist, Mobile Collections Staff

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Ensuring alignment of teams with organizational goals and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

    Ensuring a dedicated focus on the production and distribution of quality products in a timely manner while providing the highest level of customer service.

    Participating as a member of the blood bank’s management team in planning, program formulation and decision making with particular reference to the role, functions and technical support of the manufacturing and distribution of blood products.

    Fostering and enhancing customer hospital relations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Develop and implement a team that embraces customer service and ownership for meeting recipient needs while working in conjunction with collections to ensure patients’ needs are met in a timely manner. Foster staff development to support organizational objectives and standards.

    Works with department managers and staff to ensure that collections, manufacturing and distribution processes follow standard operating procedures, ensuring the safety of blood products and compliance with FDA and AABB regulatory requirements.

    Maintain open and positive communication with managers and support services departments.

    Establish clear expectations for Hospital Services and Manufacturing staff and Mobile Collection staff relating to their job descriptions.

    Maintain knowledge of SOPs in all areas of Hospital Services, Manufacturing and Mobile Collections.

    Assist Incident Commander and if necessary act as liaison for BBA during an emergency (emergency, crisis or natural disaster).

    Work to develop employee proficiency with an expectation of 100% accuracy on all paperwork. Set expectation for reduction of errors in operations and compliance to meet or exceed company objectives.

    Make employee safety and well-being a priority at all times. Reinforces attention to safety with staff, promoting timely reporting of safety issues.

    Identify professional development opportunities for applicable staff and self.

    Participate in the hiring process; perform evaluation and disciplinary review of applicable staff. Utilize support departments as required. Ensure timely completion of competency evaluations of staff and ensure through midlevel management they are completed in a timely manner.

    Review timesheets; resolve discrepancies through Accounting Department in a timely manner.

    Ensure OSHA regulations, cGMP principles and BBA SOPS are adhered to.

    Promote a positive work environment in which staff work cooperatively towards objectives. Work cooperatively with all staff to ensure production of a quality product and there is a focus on exceptional customer service.

    Maintain donor and employee confidentiality.

    Follows all pertinent SOP’s that relate to this position; will document required information on appropriate records as needed. May be required to perform in other roles as trained and competent to do.

    Resolve customer complaints/issues immediately, using appropriate support departments as needed.

    Route issues appropriately to support departments. Maintain communication through all levels of organization, encourage employees to utilize appropriate support departments as necessary to resolve issues and answer questions.

    Create and monitor performance standards for all areas and positions.

    Responsible for reporting and performing corrective actions on occurrences.

    Build employee morale through recognition, strong leadership, constructive feedback and performance appraisal.

    Responsible for staff who maintain equipment; troubleshoot all equipment issues as appropriate and with minimal disruption to operations.

    Exhibits support of BBA values, quality objectives, and customer service standards at all times. Promote the strategic direction of BBA to all employees.

    Help maintain positive image of BBA throughout the community and State of Alaska while maintaining overall corporate image.

    Attend all relevant meetings as scheduled and able to attend.

    Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION

    Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required. Experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for educational requirement. Preferred: Master's Degree

    EXPERIENCE

    Minimum three years of supervisory experience, preferably in a fast paced, highly regulated environment.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, ETC.

    Minimum: Current Driver’s License. Must be able to pass a background check by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), as well as a Federal/Fingerprint Background Check.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Potential hazard due to exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. The Blood Bank of Alaska follows OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards in the workplace. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
