    THERE IS A $7500 SIGN ON BONUS FOR A 3 YEAR COMMITMENT FOR THIS POSITION AS WELL AS POSSIBLE SHIFT DIFFERENTIALS

    HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)

    Bachelors in Science Discipline- Alternative bachelor’s degrees are acceptable with successful completion of ASCP HT/HTL exam prior to employment.

    Completion of NAACLS accredited histotech program

    3-5 years experience

    Certification by Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathologists

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Assists management in overseeing and directing work of technical personnel engaged in performing various routine and complex laboratory tests. In doing so, establishes work priorities, organizes and assigns work to laboratory personnel. Performs more complex and/or non-routine testing procedures and regularly checks validity and accuracy of test results obtained by laboratory personnel. Performs the duties of the technical personnel in assigned section on a regular basis.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    1)Performs routine and advanced procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs required quality control and calibration procedures. Verifies accuracy in patient information and specimen acceptability. Testing performance and assessment includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of such examinations.

    2)Assists management in overseeing and directing work of lab personnel, establishes work priorities, and conducts daily surveillance and analysis of results for accuracy. May provide feedback to Manager or Supervisor on personnel performance reviews.

    3)Performs instrument maintenance/troubleshooting procedures and resolves or assists personnel in solving complex problems related to instrumentation and/or laboratory procedures.

    4)Monitors departmental unit and personnel for compliance with regulations of outside agencies, e.g., OSHA, The Joint Commission, HIPAA, Illinois Department of Public Health, College of American Pathologists (CAP)/CAP surveys, CMS, DOT, etc. Conducts and completes various proficiency surveys, coordinates the collection of quality control and assurance data as well as survey data and prepares required reports. Reviews data to identify trends and problem areas or noncompliance, proposing corrective actions if required. Works to resolve deficiencies in order to meet regulatory guidelines and may prepare a report on findings.

    5)Executes an approach of continual improvement: Utilizes data and reports to initiate problem-solving techniques such as root cause analyses (RCA), corrective action development, and/or procedure or form re-design as to reduce human error. Presents data and may be responsible for incident reporting and management using the organization’s automated quality management system.

    6)Functions as a technical resource. Provides theoretical information and bench instruction to personnel and/ or students. Disseminates professional knowledge, information on current trends, and case studies to personnel and/or students.

    7)Develops new procedures as required to increase quality of laboratory results, reduce costs, and/or increase effectiveness of assigned section and corresponding personnel. Tests new procedures and assists in implementation and evaluation of new laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

    8)Updates section policy and procedure manuals works with departmental personnel to keep them informed, trains personnel and demonstrates new procedures.

    9)May be responsible for inventory control, monitoring to assure uninterrupted laboratory services, while ensuring adherence to operational budgets and cost containment strategies. Provides input to operational and capital budget planning. Creates written capital/special project business cases, when needed and requested by manager, to support the department’s resource needs.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    REQUIRED

    •Associates degree in a science or healthcare related field.

    •Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histology program and subsequent certification as a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist, HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP).

    •One year of Laboratory experience in Histology.

    Licensure/Certifications

    HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP)

    PREFERRED

    •Bachelor Degree in a science or healthcare related field

    •1 - 3 years of Laboratory experience in Histology.

    •Histotechnologist HTL(ASCP)

    OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

    •Technical expertise necessary in order to interpret tests, recognize abnormal test results, validate and optimize new testing platforms, synthesize complex technical procedures and troubleshoot technical or equipment issues.

    •Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation method, and to evaluate suitability of slides or assay results produced.

    •Ability to work on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment and technical skills.

    •Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals.

    •High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations.
