Job Description
This position will encompass the following responsibilities. This is not considered to be an all-encompassing list of responsibilities, and additional duties may be assigned as needed to support the business.
· Inspect all inbound scrap via tractor trailer and direct trucks where to dump load.
· As requested, assist in inspecting inbound scrap via railroad car.
· Spot check suspected radioactive cars or truck loads with handheld Geiger counter
· Spot check suspected off chemistry scrap with handheld Niton XRF machine.
· As requested, assist in tracking or isolating suspected scrap for off chemistry heats at the furnace.
· Notify material handler operators when loads are clear to add to existing stockpile
· Advise Production Supervisor or scrap yard operators when scrap has been cleared and they begin shearing/cutting/processing.
· Provide data needed to complete daily reports to the Clerk on the scrap yard side.
· Assist Production Supervisor in providing guidance to the general hourly workforce as needed.
· Follow specific Procedure such as rail car placement for the scrap equipment to process material as necessary.
· Develop and execute small projects to drive Safety, CI (Continuous Improvement) and Equipment initiatives
· complete equipment and operating site inspections/audits and create follow up actions
· Fill out scrap reports and update product inventory information in spreadsheets (Excel
Qualifications
Must be able to:
· Bend/stoop for up to 5 minutes while inspecting scrap that is on the ground.
· Have the ability to climb flights of stairs to reach the inspection stand at the scrapyard.
· Have the ability to climb the ladder on the side of a rail car
· Have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Have the ability to work in ambient temperatures as low as -10 degrees and as high as 105 degrees, all work will be outdoors.
· Have the ability to think and make clear decisions under pressure
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· Some computer experience preferred, i.e. Excel, Word, generic knowledge
· Previous scrap metal experience would be beneficial, but not required.
· Must have a high school education or equivalent
