  • Responsibilities

    Forensic Architect responsible for using ethical/comprehensive/current investigation methods (scientific and professional experience) to identify issues with construction or building (building envelope), determine issues and causes, and provide/suggest solutions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Forensic Field Inspection (Cause, Origin, Provide/Suggest Solutions, Expert Opinion)
    • Review/Understand Construction Plans/Documents/Timeline for New or Existing Buildings, etc. and Standards of Care
    • Detailed Plan of Loss: Summary, Scope, Schedule, Repair Structures, Total Loss, Budget, etc.
    • Understand and Communicate Effectively Complex Information to Various Audiences with Wide Range of Technical Understanding and Under Vigorous Examination/Defend Opinion
    • Understand Various Roles & Responsibilities of Participants in Construction (i.e., Architect, Contractor, Consultants, Subcontractors, Foreman, etc.)
    • Understand Construction Documents (i.e., Contracts, ASI’s, RFI’s, Request for Payments, Punch Lists, Substantial Completion Forms, Schedules, Permits, etc.)
    • Document Using Forensic Documentation Procedures
    • Understand Various Aspects of Construction (i.e., Water Resistant Barrier, Proper Window/Door Flashing, Proper Roof/Wall Flashing, Drainage, Electrical, etc.)
    • Strong Knowledge of Residential (IRC), Commercial (IBC), Existing (IEBC) I-Codes (Including Handicap, Parking, etc.)
    • Ability to Independently Research Codes, Standards, etc. and Stay Current with New/Amended
    • Structural Design using Concrete, Wood, Steel, and Other Materials (Outdated Methods and Current Methods)
    • Perform Slip Testing
    • Analyze Evidence/Inspect/Consult: Various Construction Claims Including Surety, Property, Construction Defect Failures, Residential and/or Commercial, Code Compliance Across Broad Spectrum
    • Schedule Onsite Inspections with Property Owners/Landlords, etc. for Physical Inspection(s)
    • Timely and Accurate Computer Analysis and Calculations; Written and Verbal of Findings, Concise, Understandable, Defensible
    • Written Reports: Detailed/Supporting Documentation/Concise/Factual/Understandable/Defensible
    • Interpret, Analyze, Process, and Apply Data to Support Expert Opinion and Conclusion(s)
    • Ability to Provide Expert Witness Testimony for Court Depositions or Trials
    • Work With/Build Positive Relationships: Employees, Management, Government, Third Parties, Public, Diverse Cultures/Ages/Backgrounds, etc.
    • Responsible and Accurate: Data Gathering, Storage, Privacy, Disposal, Access to Data, etc.
    • Travel to Site and/or Client Sites
    • Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Teams to Analyze Complex Issues; Attend Meetings
    • Responsive Communication
    • Proficient/Knowledgeable in Statistics and Ability to Research Current Statistics
    • Ensure Technical Proficiency, Ethics, Factual, Professional, Accuracy

    Knowledge:

    ADA Accessibility/Compliance, Architectural Agreements, Architectural Standard of Reasonable Care, Building and Fire Codes, Building Mold, Negligence, County/State/Federal Codes/Statutes, Construction Defects, Water Leaks and Intrusion, Betterment, Stairwell/Elevator/Escalator Deficiencies, Roofing, Sound/Light, Analysis of Materials (Paint, Coatings, etc.), Railings, Slip/Fall and Trip/Fall Precautions/Testing/etc., Windows/Doors/Exits, During Construction, Liability, Building Design, Errors/Omissions, Acts of Nature (Wind, Hail, Rain, Tornado, etc.), etc.

    Computer Skills:

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
    • Current and Active Working Knowledge of Related Field’s Software and Programs

    Physical Requirements:

    Carry and Operate Any Necessary Equipment for Field Studies, Stand, Bend, Stoop, Kneel, Crawl, Crouch, Walk on Elevated and Sloped Surfaces, Carry and Operate Extension Ladder, Work in Confined Spaces, Climb Roofs, Close Vision/Distinguish Between Colors, Periods of Weather (Heat/Cold, etc.)
