RICAR Business Consulting LLC (RBC) is seeking highly skilled and experienced Board-Certified Oncology Physicians to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Western New York Healthcare System, including the Buffalo VA Medical Center, Batavia VA Medical Center, and Olean Community-Based Outpatient Clinic. This position provides critical staffing under the Oncology Integrated Critical Staffing Program, delivering comprehensive care to VA beneficiaries.
Job Description Summary
As a Board-Certified Oncology Physician , you will provide inpatient and outpatient oncology services to veterans, including diagnosis, treatment planning, coordination of care, and on-call coverage. This role directly impacts the health outcomes of VA patients by ensuring timely access to expert oncology care and maintaining continuity of services at multiple VA facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings (estimated 90% of duties).
- Conduct medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for oncology patients.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams, including primary care providers and specialty services.
- Provide on-call coverage for oncology services, including phone consults and in-person response within required timeframes.
- Document care in the VA's electronic health record system in accordance with VA and federal standards.
- Participate in tumor boards, oncology/hematology conferences, and other clinical meetings as required.
- Perform administrative tasks such as peer review, quality assurance documentation, and ongoing professional practice evaluations.
- Comply with all VA mandatory trainings, infection control standards, and credentialing requirements.
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of post-residency oncology practice experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in internal medicine oncology and comprehensive oncology patient management.
- Prior experience providing oncology services in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting (VA or similar healthcare systems preferred).
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs), with VA EHR experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Education & Certifications
Required
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine – Medical Oncology (American Board of Internal Medicine).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Current DEA registration.
Preferred
- Additional subspecialty training in Hematology-Oncology.
- Prior experience within the VA system.
Work Location & Arrangement
Primary Location: Buffalo VA Medical Center, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215.
Additional Sites: Batavia VA Medical Center (Batavia, NY) and Olean Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (Olean, NY).
- On-site position with recurring travel to Batavia and Olean locations (minimum once per quarter, up to once per week per site).
Schedule & Position Type
- Full-time (40 hours per week per FTE).
- Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (excluding federal holidays).
- On-call coverage is required during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be available by phone within 15 minutes and on-site within 60 minutes.
Compensation Range
- Annual Salary: $350,000 – $400,000
- Hourly Rate: $168 – $192
- Compensation is based on experience and board certification level.
