Department: OB
Status: Full-time, 72-80 hours per pay period
Shift: Nights, 8:45pm-7:15am schedule will vary with the needs of the department
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs nursing care services under the direction and supervision of licensed nurses. Complements the licensed nurse in the performance of nursing functions, but may not substitute for the licensed nurse. Will provide coordination of unit communications, transcribes medical information and physician orders for the OB Unit. This position will also be required to work in other nursing units.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs clerical duties, transcribes and enters orders, maintains statistics sheet, maintains policy and procedure manuals and enters charges
Obtains and records temperature, pulse, respiration, B/P noninvasive and/or manual, accucheck, pulse oxy, and weight and reports abnormal results
Provides safe patient transfers, ambulation and transports for the patient
Performs clerical functions - including ordering, stocking and inventory of both units - restocks birthing, postpartum, and nursery rooms
Sets up delivery cart
Cleans instruments post-delivery / post procedure
Perform newborn hearing screening
Provides and records nutrition and fluid intake as directed and output including diapers, perineal pads, foley catheters, JP drains
Sets up and maintains medical records
Follows basic infection control principles
Shows empathy, respect and concern for, and preservation of the dignity of all patients, family, and visitors
Maintains a clean, safe and healthy environment in the patient's area
Provides to the patient appropriate and safe personal hygiene and grooming

SKILLS: Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend the written and spoken word in English; Basic computer literacy and ability to effectively learn new software programs required; Working knowledge of medical and technical terminology used in reports, transcription of orders, etc.; Able to carry out direction of Licensed Nurse ; Ability to note changes in conditions that should be reported; Demonstrates ongoing interest in maintaining and increasing healthcare skills; Displays commitment to working with Interdisciplinary Team members, other staff and volunteers; Demonstrates maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalency; Successful completion of a Certified Nurses Aide course
LICENSURE REQUIRED: Current Certified Nurses Aide – State of Idaho; Current BLS (AHA)
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as clerk or receptionist in Medical setting preferred; Prior CNA experience preferred
