STATUS: Part-Time 24 hour per pay period
SHIFT: Days/Evenings
POSITION SUMMARY: Provides assistance to the ED Registered Nurse with the provision of care for Emergency Department patients. Documents services provided. Reports, as appropriate, to the Registered Nurse.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides services according to the Emergency department protocol and standard of care
Observes, reports to RN and documents patient status, all care or services furnished
Assists with rooming patients and preparing the patient for examination
Obtains and records blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height/weight, and orthostatic vital signs as directed
Follows basic infection control principles
Observes basic elements of body functioning and report changes to the RN
Maintains a clean, safe, and healthy environment for the patient
Prepares ED rooms for patient reception
Follows emergency procedures as directed
Provides to the patient appropriate and safe personal hygiene and grooming
Provides safe patient transfers and ambulation as directed
Provides nutrition and fluid intake as directed
Completes appropriate documentation
Shows empathy, respect and concern for, and preservation of the dignity of, all persons, including family and visitors.
Clean, stock and organizes ED rooms and equipment.
Transports patients throughout the facility
Attend educational classes and training
Obtains EKG’s as trained by cardiopulmonary
BGH maintains the right to establish work schedules and to be ensured of employee’s attendance when scheduled. Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality is a required Essential Function of this position

Skills: Ability to read, write and communicate in English, Able to carry out directions of RN, Ability to note changes in conditions that should be reported, Demonstrates basic understanding of principles of nutrition, the aging process and emotional problems of illness
Sympathetic attitude toward the ill, the dying, and their loved ones, Commitment to work with Interdisciplinary Team members, other staff and volunteers, Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job
Education: Successful completion of a Certified Nurse Aide course or EMT course
Experience: Prior CNA experience preferred
Licensure/Certification: Current State of Idaho Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Current BLS certification

Supervised by: ED Nurse Manager or Charge RN
