Department: ED and ICCU
Status: Full-time; Exempt
Shift: Days; 80 hours per pay period
Summary:
Under administrative direction, assumes 24 hour responsibility in managing the human and material resources of the ED and ICCU Departments in order to provide quality patient care and an environment conducive to staff growth and satisfaction. Contributes to nursing and BGH through support of its philosophy, objectives and educational efforts.
Primary Functions
Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice including appropriate delegation, competence and professional growth
Human resource management skills – provides direction to personnel in accordance with organizational goals and objectives
Operational management skills - maintains an environment that encourages quality patient care, patient and staff satisfaction
Professional expectations - actively participates as a member of the nursing leadership team
Responsible for performance improvement activities of department
Actively manages budget, charges and expenses
Acts as a liaison with medical staff and other disciplines to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care
Develops staff performance expectations and conveys these expectations to the staff
Serves as a patient advocate when needed
Functions as staff nurse or charge nurse when needed
Responsible for oversight of purchasing/inventory responsibilities of department
Manages and sustains efficient and effective staffing plan utilizing standards of professional practice and hospital benchmarks

Requirements
Skills
Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend the written and spoken word in English; Basic computer literacy and ability to effectively learn new software programs required; Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel or other spreadsheet program(s), WORD, etc.) highly preferred; Documented competency as charge nurse in applicable unit; Documented satisfactory performance appraisals in all essential functions; Evidence of effective conflict resolution skills with physicians and staff; Budgeting and Financial knowledge
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required, Master’s degree in Nursing preferred
Experience
Minimum of three years nursing management experience
Licensure/Certification
Current State of Idaho RN license; Professional Certification in relevant area of nursing practice highly preferred, department specific requirements are:
ICCU: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Procedural Sedation required
ED: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, Procedural Sedation required; CEN preferred
