    SHIFT: Actual days worked and hours will vary - includes weekend rotation

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Nurse Resident participates in a yearlong orientation program coupled with online training through the Iowa Online Nurse Residency Program. The Nurse Resident will receive an initial modified orientation in the following departments: Medical/Surgical, Post-Partum, Surgical Service, ICU, and Emergency Department. Following the initial phase, the resident will choose one of three specialty TRACKs within one of the following areas: Med-Surg with Post-Partum and/or Labor and Delivery; Intensive Care Unit & Emergency Department; Same Day Surgery & Recovery or Operative Room & Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The nurse will complete an extensive and comprehensive orientation within their chosen TRACK area. Following completion of the first year of residency, and successful completion of orientation, the nurse may apply for open positions or remain as a resource float RN within their TRACK departments. The Nurse Resident will maintain full time employment with BGH for a minimum of two years.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    The Registered Nurse renders professional care to patients within the patient care units of Bonner General Health (BGH), as directed by the Nurse Manager, Hospital Supervisor, and/or Licensed Independent Practitioner, and pursuant to the guidelines of the Registered Nurse Practice Act and the policies and procedures of the hospital

    Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation

    Demonstrates knowledge, technical skills and compliance with hospital policy and procedure in provision of patient's needs, treatments and health education

    Responsible for performing within the rules and regulations of the Idaho State Board of Nursing

    Accomplishes documentation of patient care within the guidelines of policy and procedure with the goal of maintaining quality care

    Provides safe and comprehensive nursing care according to state regulations, hospital policy and procedure and DNV standards

    Establishes care priorities based on patient problems; communicates with regarding patient problems/concerns/changes in condition; notify physician promptly regarding concerns

    Proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, as evidenced by lack of medication errors; reports medication errors when discovered

    Performs procedures accurately, completely and safely according to established policy and procedure and physician orders

    Demonstrates understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis and infection control procedures

    Maintains a service excellence attitude with patients and families giving consideration to their needs, rights, safety and legal issues

    Creates an environment of caring for patients, families, and one another

    SKILLS: Must demonstrate critical thinking skills; Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend the written and spoken word in English; Basic computer literacy and ability to effectively learn new software programs required

    EXPERIENCE: Nurses who have graduated within the last year as an RN, including graduates who have progressed from a CNA or LPN to RN preferred

    EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited professional nursing program

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Current State of Idaho RN license & current BLS (AHA) certification; TACT, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC and Conscious Sedation preferred and must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire.
