Summary
The Radiologic Technologist is a registered professional primarily specializing in the utilization of radiographic equipment as necessary and performs radiographic examinations under the direction of a Radiologist.
Primary Functions
Demonstrates considerable initiative and judgment in determining proper anatomical positioning for areas to be radiographed, calculating exposure techniques and evaluating radiographic images for high diagnostic quality
Demonstrates a good working knowledge of anatomy, physics and exposure techniques to obtain high quality radiographic images
Demonstrates a professional working knowledge of all radiographic imaging equipment
Assists physicians with imaging procedures
Demonstrates appropriate ALARA techniques to maintain patient safety
Practices aseptic techniques as necessary
Adequately explains the examination to the patient including that the report will be available within 24 hours
Demonstrates tact and empathy in all interactions with patients
Able to recognize adverse contrast media reactions and provide appropriate level of acute care
Prepares barium sulfate solutions and administers contrast to render organs radiopaque; assists radiologist with administration of contrast media
Adjusts immobilization devices to prevent involuntary movement of patient
Administers IV techniques for x-ray procedures requiring contrast media
Properly uses venous puncture techniques for contrast injection
Demonstrate a professional working knowledge of all department equipment including PACS, Meditech 6 Electronic Medical Record (EMR), computer systems and phones
Responsible for professional working knowledge of QA/QC for ACR accredited facilities
Responsible for establishing, maintaining and ordering supplies
Responsible for completing required training, focus competency reviews, skill and equipment checklists and continuing education credits

Skills
Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend the written and spoken word in English; basic computer literacy and ability to effectively learn new software programs required; Working knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to radiology
Education
High school graduate or equivalent; Completion of formal radiologic technologist training in an AMA approved school and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or registry eligible
Experience
Minimum two years radiology experience preferred
Licensure/Certification
A.R.R.T. registered and credentialed in assigned modality preferred or required within 6 months of hire
