Summary of Position:
Performs the duties of a receptionist/secretary and phlebotomist for the clinical laboratory of Bonner General Health.
Responsibilities:
Performs clerical and secretarial duties of the laboratory office
Must possess knowledge and technical skills to provide care to all age groups
Uses approved phlebotomy processes and procedures of specimen collection requirements and understands complications of phlebotomy
Performs the duties of a phlebotomist, which includes collecting and processing biological specimens consistent with 95% success with minimal complaint of pain from patients for all age groups
Consistently utilizes two (2) methods of patient identification when collecting or transferring blood specimens to assure proper specimen identification
Uses “read-back” of oral and telephone orders to assure proper action
Uses knowledge of medical necessity requirements, CPT codes and applicable ICD-9 codes and knows when to obtain ABN form before drawing the patient
Uses reference tools to find diagnosis code numbers when given diagnosis descriptions
Uses approved procedures in handling all referral specimens, tracking and reporting
Achieve at least the minimum continuing education requirements
The ability to use sound judgment and to work independently
Develops competence in all fields of computer access: ordering, accessioning, inquiry, billing, printing and faxing
Responsible for establishing and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships with all staff members, patients, physicians and their office staff
Education:
High school education or equivalent
Experience:
Previous job related experience required. Phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.
