Our client is an established high-end residential construction firm in Manhattan, family-owned and building in the city's premier residential buildings for close to forty years. The identity of our client will be shared with qualified candidates at the appropriate stage of the search.
The Role
This is an accounting clerk position inside the Finance and Accounting department, reporting to the Accounting & Finance Manager. The work is accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliations, and it suits someone early in an accounting career who wants broader exposure to a project-based business. It is a non-exempt, hourly position and is overtime eligible.
Responsibilities
- Process vendor and subcontractor invoices, coding them to projects, cost codes and general ledger accounts.
- Review invoices for documentation and approvals before payment, and maintain accounts payable records.
- Assist with weekly vendor and subcontractor payment runs.
- Assist with accounts receivable, including preparing and distributing customer invoices.
- Support project billing, including documentation for progress billings and change orders.
- Maintain job cost records and help reconcile project costs.
- Reconcile vendor statements, bank and credit card accounts, and research discrepancies.
- Review and confirm the accuracy of weekly timesheets.
- Maintain vendor and subcontractor files — W-9s, insurance certificates and lien waivers — and track subcontractor payments.
- Support month-end procedures, including reconciliations and supporting schedules.
What We Are Looking For
- One to three years of bookkeeping, accounting, or accounts payable and receivable experience.
- An associate degree in accounting, finance or business administration is preferred.
- Construction or another project-based industry is a plus, not a requirement.
- Strong Excel, and a willingness to learn QuickBooks Desktop.
- Accuracy and organization above all. This is a detail job in a firm that cares about detail.
Benefits
- Medical coverage effective on your date of hire, with no waiting period. Eight UnitedHealthcare plan options, with dental and vision available alongside.
- Company-paid life and accidental death insurance of $50,000 each.
- Paid time off from your first year, plus five days of paid sick time granted at the start of employment.
- Nine paid holidays.
- 401(k) profit sharing after one year, matched at 100% of the first 3% and 50% of the next 2%, vesting immediately.
- Flexible spending and health savings accounts, commuter assistance and an employee assistance program.
Compensation
$36 – $41 per hour, which annualises to approximately $75,000 – $85,000 at a standard full-time schedule.
