  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Support the Electronics/Controls Engineering team with developing new products and product features, including thermostats, Direct Digital Control (DDC), appliance control boards, and iOS/Android Apps. Obtain a deep understanding of how the supported HVAC products and controllers function from a system and component level. Provide support for component and App testing, including analysis of test data and determination of next steps to further product development. Support engineering processes on all current and future products. Collaborate and interact with product management and project management team in new product development projects.

    Product and system testing in electronics lab, data analysis, product design and development, prototyping, and optimization of product performance.

    Mobile and tablet platform (iOS/Android apps) testing and verification.

    Work closely with test engineer(s) to create test plans and ensure that software related issues are properly assigned, fixed, and closed in JIRA.

    Involvement with front-end product development process for advanced heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC) products by supporting with controls design, prototyping, and troubleshooting.

    Examine/document existing development and release processes, and provide recommendation for improvement.

    Make conclusions based on test data, and create recommendations, reports, and presentations. Programs used on a regular basis include Excel, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PowerPoint, and Visual Basic.

    Student will gain experience with air flow systems and components such as refrigeration circuits, control boards, thermostats and other controls, compressors, valves, blower fans, electric motors, etc.

    Students are expected to behave as young engineers with the ability to work independently and in teams on large and small projects.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 2nd or 3rd co-op.
    • Computer Engineering preferred, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field.
    • Motivated self-starter and hands-on student needed to work with product management team.
    • Courses taken: programming (C++ or other), digital signal processing, circuits I & II, electronics, and calculus.
    • Electronics design projects, programming projects, and leadership program (preferred).
    • Background in system testing a plus.
    • Familiarity with communication protocols (RS485, I2C, SPI, etc). Knowledge of BACnet is a plus.
    • Knowledge of bug/issue tracking and project management software (e.g. JIRA) and/or source code management software (e.g. Github, BitBucket) a huge plus.
    • Familiarity with home automation protocols such as Alexa, Homekit, Google Home, and IFTTT a plus.
    • Experience debugging or troubleshooting and testing mobile applications for iOS or Android a plus.
    • Knowledge of thermodynamics is a plus.
    • Skill in communication of project status, planning and deliverables.
    • Skilled in the use of standard computing tools such as: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.), project management tools, web browsers, etc
    • Desired experience in process development, improvement, and documentation.

    ONLY LOCAL  CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED.  Ability to commute to the Watertown MA location on a daily basis   Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer. No relocation or sponsorship available.
