    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY

    This role is part of the centralized Logistics Team within the Supply Chain Organization and is responsible for daily shipment optimization and load tendering for a designated geographic region/BU, conducted in accordance with O-I’s overall Logistics strategy. This position will work under the direction of the Logistics Operations Supervisor and will build and maintain effective relationships with transportation carriers, Customer Service, and Plant Shipping personnel to ensure that shipments are handled in the most cost-effective manner possible while maintaining exceptional delivery service to the customers.

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Assign and tender shipments to O-I preferred carriers using O-I's transportation management system (TMS) to optimize service, capacity and cost.
    • Ensure that all tendered loads are accepted by the assigned transportation partner.
    •  Monitor shipments to ensure on-time pick-up and delivery. Proactively follow up as required to ensure desired service results are secured and issues are communicated to all parties.
    •  Assist carriers in resolving issues regarding loading, unloading, appointments, unplanned accessorial requests, etc. and communicate to appropriate parties as necessary.
    •  Utilize the TMS Spot Market tool as a means handle exceptions to the routing guides and waterfall tendering process.
    •  Support shipping/receiving locations with carrier issues, trailer pool coordination, rush shipment arrangements, and problem resolution as necessary.
    •  Analyze existing shipping processes for possible improvements and provide support for various implementation plans to effect ongoing productivity improvement.
    •  Dynamically evaluate carrier capacity commitments and work directly with assigned carriers to resolve exceptions in order to meet service commitments.
    •  Coordinate reverse logistic flow of returns goods and returnable packaging as required.
    •  Responsible for monitoring and processing daily Web-Settle transactions to ensure accuracy of outbound/inbound freight payment for assigned shipping locations and carriers.
    •  Ensure carriers are submitting 214 appointment delivery records on a timely basis in order to complete the payment cycle and enable carrier score carding, i.e. OTIF/OTD.
    •  Maintain excellent communications and service with shipping/receiving locations and carriers.
    •  Mentored by the Senior Logistics Specialist to learn the business and the processes / systems used by Logistics
    •  Provide back-up support for other regions/BU’s within Logistics operations as needed

    SCOPE AND IMPACT

    •  Candidate to be responsible for the logistics activities for minimum of two manufacturing facilities plus relative warehouse locations
    •  Position to execute 28,000 annual transactions, equating to a spend of $18MM

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    •  Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Logistics or related field required.
    •  1-3 years’ experience in transportation. Operations experience preferred
    •  General understanding of business and transportation terms and concepts
    •  Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel required; TMS/SAP experience preferred
    •  Analytical and problem solving ability
    •  Strong attention to detail, excellent work standards, planning/organization and follow-up skills
    •  Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    Role to report to Logistic Operations Manager. Logistic Operations Manager reports to Director of Logistics

     

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    Less than 5 percent travel

    Qualifications

    THE LOGISTICS SPECIALIST  SHOULD HAVE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related-area. (Procurement/Supply Chain preferred)
    • Minimum 1-3 years procurement experience (exposure to negotiations, contract management, and strategic sourcing process).
    • Negotiation experience required
    • Experience and Knowledge of the Sourcing process
    • Systems: SAP, Business Warehouse, Microsoft Suite, Ariba Contract Management, Iasta Smartsource (or similar) e-sourcing platform
