    Job Description

    We expect the research intern to investigate into developing context-aware intelligent systems, with focus on emergency support. We wish to develop personalized intelligent systems that process social media streams and provide recommendation – leveraging knowledge and context from past dialogue-based interactions, crowd-sourced structured text, and existing social network corpora. Reasoning over this knowledge may be performed using a combination of several techniques, including: state-space PGMs, ontological methods, deep learning, and cognitive architectures. We expect the prospective intern to evaluate and compare multiple strategies. Together with our faculty collaborators at the Language Technologies Institute in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, we have made several key developments, which we expect the prospective intern to leverage and extend. Further, the position includes helping the development of the personalized emergency system, participating to group meetings and providing regular updates to the supervisor.

    Tasks & Responsibilities:

    • Perform a literature review, to understand the state-of-the-art in context-aware personal assistance, knowledge representation and reasoning, sequential decision-making, online learning
    • Contribute to construction of a domain knowledge graph
    • Compare the performance of various reasoning methods
    • Apply Deep Learning methods to decision support
    • Summarize the findings and contribute to a high quality research paper
    • Formalize the findings and contribute to a patent submission
