Research Intern – SoundSee Mission: Machine Learning and Signal Processing for Audio AI
Job Description
SOUNDSEE MISSION: PROJECT AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The SoundSee Mission involves several acoustic monitoring devices that the RTC recently launched to the International Space Station (ISS). Some of the fundamental goals of this mission include mapping the acoustics of the ISS and developing an AI-based understanding of the sounds associated with specific mission-critical devices on the ISS such as the Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) for the purposes of machine health monitoring. The development of these methods for space will support Bosch audio AI efforts on the ground in a variety of industries such as manufacturing, autonomous driving, and connected living.
The intern will part of a dynamic and highly motivated team working on building exciting new products and services enabled by audio analytics, which leverages state-of-the-art, data-driven approaches (e.g., deep learning) in addition to classical signal processing and mathematics for audio feature representation learning and their semantic interpretations. One of the primary goals of this research internship is to explore and develop audio AI methods in the SoundSee Mission Control, Research, and Test Facility in Pittsburgh, PA in preparation for deployment in space and on Earth. An ideal candidate will have hands-on familiarity with theory and practice of state-of-the-art audio signal processing as well as deep learning approaches. Various forms of internship success include patents, publications, and the deployment of algorithms in Bosch products.
