    Job Description

    Reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the materials management function relating to the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products to meet Plant objectives and customer requirements. This involves the responsibility of directing and administering Purchasing, Production Control, Inventory Control, Shipping and Receiving, Customer Contact, and Materials. Positions supervised include Scheduling Assistant, Warehouse Clerk, and Warehouse Material Handlers.

    Responsabilities:

    • Maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure on time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.
    • Assisting in establishing procedures and supervises the annual physical inventory. This includes the taking and valuing of the year-end physical inventory.
    • Responsible for the proper year-end phase-out programs and initiating and processing the resulting obsolete and termination of inventory.
    • Assists and ensures proper production control planning and scheduling programs to meet sales forecasts and to balance the level of manpower and machine requirements. Makes certain that deviations to the production schedule are investigated and properly followed up.
    • Ensures proper contact with customers relating to releases and deliveries.
    • Involved in the purchasing and/or contracting for materials, supplies, equipment and services for the operation of the Company, in addition to all inventory items. Confers with requesting parties when specific sources are requested. Investigates and solves problems resulting from material shortages.
    • Assists in establishing and maintaining purchasing practices and policies to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors. Keeps informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
    • Assist in continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity and delivery for this plant.
    • Keeps abreast of materials and packaging markets and pricing trends that affect Company products.
    • Assists in developing, establishing, and providing for the maintenance of reporting systems that relate to the materials function.
    • Manages the shipping and receiving functions of the Plant and oversees the storage of purchased materials and finished goods.
    • Ensures that the Plant standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all Materials Department functions.
    • Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
    • Responsible for GMS Material Systems initiatives.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Cooperates internally with Plant Manager and Management Staff
    • Cooperates externally with customers, vendors and other Gerresheimer facilities.
    • Demonstrates behavior that meets Good Manufacturing Practices, Safety and Good Housekeeping requirements.
    • Wears safety glasses and hearing protection as required in designated areas. Hair/Beard nets and lab coat as required in Pack Room.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • Degree in Business or Management related field or equivalent 5 to 10 years’ experience in Purchasing, Production, and/or Inventory Control.
    • At least 2 years experience in a computer-oriented environment.
    • At least 5 years experience in working with SAP
    • At least 5 years experience working with customers and suppliers with relating to releases and deliveries as well as resolving any claims.
    • At least 5 years experience negotiating with suppliers on price, packaging, and freight.
    • At least 3 years experience scheduling and coordinating sales orders into production schedule for multiple production lines (At least 20 or more lines) to ensure on timely deliveries.
    • Knowledge of the glass tubing industry
    • Experience in directing and supervising employees.
    • Bilingual (English & Spanish) a plus

    FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to follow established technical and administrative procedures.
    • Strong computer skills.
