    Covia is looking for a dynamic STAFF GEOLOGIST who will have a positive impact on the GEOLOGY team at its OTTAWA, IL location. The Staff Geologist will conduct field and office geological projects in support of Covia’s mining facilities.

     

     

     

     

    THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

     

     

    • Conduct required field work pertaining to geological reserve evaluations on Covia lands.
    • Log and sample all drill holes associated with these projects in a detailed, conscientious, professional manner; and see to it that the samples are delivered to the laboratory in a timely manner.
    • Evaluate the reserve potential of the assigned projects by application of all available computer software, including MineSight, and through application of sound geological science procedures. (MineSight is a package of geology and mine planning software used for deposit modeling and evaluation.)
    • Conduct mineralogical determinations of the Company’s deposits as required by means of the binocular and petrographic microscopes.
    • Use all reasonably available resources on a routine basis to solve technical and research problems.
    • Participate in the annual reserve statement program by conscientiously completing the work on each of the assigned plants and by documenting in the required manner each reserve or resource figure.
    • Participate in special task forces as required, providing geological input.
    • Provide geological input for the evaluation of potential acquisitions when requested.
    • Develop a working knowledge of geological drilling hardware and in-house and contractor drilling costs.
    • Complete all required reports including drilling project status updates and annual geology plant reports in a timely manner, being diligent in the proper use of the English language.
    • Coordinate your activities with the plant managers and mine planning staff to ensure the completion of thorough geological reports which will address key project questions.
    • Act as a motivated, self-starting individual in the conduct of assigned projects. Work independently, particularly in cases where the supervisor is not located in the same office.
    • Travel extensively as required to plant locations.
    • Maintain the good mental and physical health characteristics which are required to complete the assigned tasks.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

     

     

    THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Geology required; Master’s degree in Geology preferred.
    • 1 to 5 years of relevant work experience required.
