    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:                             Regional Director

     

     

    SUMMARY

    Responsible for the management of the communications strategy that positions and showcases a coherent message on the organization’s core intent, the region’s programs and advocacy initiatives, and enhances visibility and brand recognition. For the Americas, the focus of the Regional Communications Specialist is related to local (regional) markets to create and manage an online and offline communication strategy that increases local markets brand awareness in the countries ChildFund operates (Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico). One important aspect is, given that Brazil, Guatemala, and Mexico, already have created local market communications strategies and actions, to harmonize and use them as a point of departure.

     

    Ultimately, the Regional Communications Specialist is a storyteller that acts as our brand’s voice and ambassador to impress our potential local market supporters and attract new.

     

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.

    REGIONAL COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING STRATEGY

     

    • Develop and implement a regional communications and marketing strategy to focus on building the communications and visibility of country offices and building and managing a regional and local network of effective media relations.
    • Build the communications and visibility of Country Offices to project a unified image and message, that establishes the organization as a leading professional, non-sectarian, child rights focused, international development organization.
    • Develop, implement and maintain a regional online presence using up-to-date social networking.
    • Build and manage a network of effective media relations and coordinate activities with public relations professionals and focal points in ChildFund’s offices.

     

    CONTENT CREATION AND MANAGEMENT

     

    • In conjunction with COs, create content – stories, photos, video, quotes, etc. – that help the region increase brand awareness, build and nurture relationships with local donors and the general public at the country and regional levels.
    • Proactively provides high-quality Spanish/English communications and visual assets to the International Office and other Alliance members.
    • Write, edit, and oversee the production of publications such as newsletters, annual reports, brochures, etc.
    • Manage the preparation and distribution of information, communications and visibility materials to special interest groups in coordination with the International Office and Country Offices.
    • Ensure that all content deliverables comply with branding guidelines, child safeguarding standards and other controls of the organization.
    • Manage rapid collection of child-focused quotes, stories, photo and video in the immediate aftermath of emergencies in the region/specific program countries.
    • Keep the International Office content contact apprised of regional initiatives, successes, events, holidays and other items of potential relevance to global communications, both internal and external.

    BRAND, VISIBILITY/REPRESENTATION

     

    • Act as brand ambassador, responsible for regional communications, including printing materials, digital channels and for managing regional media relations.
    • In collaboration with organization partners, serve as liaison between the organization and the media (press, radio, web, cable, TV, etc.) and in security and crisis situations proactively prepare press statements and ensure appropriate placement.
    • Create and deliver content for public messages and branding of ChildFund regionally.
    • Raise awareness through media of the value and impact of major multi-country ChildFund projects in the region.
    • Remain alert to potential reputation risks in the region’s program countries.
    • Setting up interviews and press conferences as part of a marketing campaign, special events, workshops, meetings, and conferences. This involves contacting media outlets or industry experts.

    ALLIANCE RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

     

    • Proactively and frequently prepare timely updates for ChildFund International website and/or other members of the ChildFund Alliance.
    • In consultation and collaboration with COs Program and Sponsorship Managers and the Fundraising and Engagement unit, determine creative and innovative ways to address reporting requirements for ChildFund International programs and other Alliance partners and effective storytelling.

    RESOURCE MOBILIZATION

     

    • Generate compelling marketing materials to support in country fundraising efforts

     

    REGIONAL INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

     

    • Promote and coordinate effective internal communications on behalf of the regional office, including the Region’s ChildFund Share site.

     

    CHILD SAFEGUARDING

    • Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct himself/herself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy

    QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE 

     

    • Minimum of 7 years of media relations experience (both print and broadcast media required); two years with an international development organization preferred.
    • Demonstrated excellent Spanish and English writing skills, other languages an advantage, with the capacity to present marketing ideas in a clear manner translating complicated technical jargon into small sum donor-facing materials
    • Demonstrated knowledge of global media; direct experience in working with media representatives.
    • Marketing knowledge, possess knowledge of marketing trends and strategies in the region and can apply such knowledge
    • Demonstrated diplomacy in working with diverse cultures and audiences and sensitive situations and subject matter.
    • Skill in print quality photography and video techniques.
    • Knowledge of international development work particularly in relation to concepts and practices of development of children’s well-being, child protection, emergency response and humanitarian space.
    • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as desktop and web-based publishing, photo and video editing tools.
    • Creativity making seemingly uninteresting concepts and translate them into campaigns that drive engagement and conversion

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

     

    Bachelor’s degree or higher required in Marketing and Communications, Public Relations, Corporate Marketing Communications or related field.

     

    SUPPORT

    The Marketing Communication specialist can draw on the support of global team members in the development of his/her responsibilities. Preferably these global team members provide input into recruitment, performance planning and evaluation. The primary global team members for this position will be:

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications

    Bachelors degree in information technology systems, or related field and a professional certification (CPA, CIA, CISA, CRISC, CISM etc.); Relevant Masters Degree is preferred. Extensive experience in auditing (5+ years); Management experience preferred (3+ years); Several years’ experience in evaluating and auditing IT systems, security controls, and application program management and in supervising others doing those types of audit is preferred; Several years experience in a for profit, business environment and, a good understanding of higher education environment, business and accounting practices is preferred. An effective communicator (both written and oral) and able to interact with all levels of management; Able to manage multiple projects; Proven interpersonal skills; Able to manage staff at varying levels or responsibility.
