    PATH is currently recruiting a summer intern based at PATH offices in Seattle to support join the Media Relations team within PATH’s Global Engagement and Communications (GE) division. The intern will report to PATH’s Communications Manager. GE leads PATH’s brand, communications, policy and advocacy, philanthropy, and strategic corporate engagement efforts. We tell the story of PATH's work internally and externally, support the efforts of governments and policymakers around the world to adopt healthy policies, and inspire donors and corporations to partner with us and support our work. 

     

     

    DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT THE INTERN WILL COMPLETE:

     

    The intern will work to complete a ‘Competitor Analysis’ capstone project supporting departmental business goals along with other projects including media and social media monitoring and reporting, preparing media briefs and talking points for interviews, canvassing program teams for updated information to use in pitching efforts and informational materials, and assisting with CRM data management for journalist contacts.

     

     

    DESCRIPTION OF OVERALL LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND GOALS FOR THE INTERNSHIP/BENEFIT TO THE INTERN:

     

    The intern will support the activities of an international NGO’s media team and contribute to shaping and improving the media team’s outreach efforts, interview coordination, and data management systems and analytics. They will also gain exposure to the communications department’s marketing and creative activities, and learn about the role that media relations and communications play in driving global health and international development programs.

     

     

    BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE THE INTERN SHOULD POSSESS:

     

    • Enrolled in a graduate level program and have at least one additional term before completing a degree. Preferred areas of study include: Communications, Information Science, Journalism, Global Development, Public Health, or related field.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, editing experienced strongly preferred.
    • Intern should have a demonstrated interest in global health, be an avid consumer of world news, and a daily user of major social media platforms (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram).
    • Experience with project management methods and software (i.e. Smartsheet, Asana).
    • Proficiency in social media analytics software (i.e. Twitter Analytics and Facebook Insights), and familiarity with other media and social media monitoring/posting software (i.e. Trendkite, Hootsuite, Sprout Social) is preferred.

     

    SKILLS TO BE DEVELOPED AND/OR EXPANDED DURING INTERNSHIP:

     

    Media relations operations (journalist research, interview preparation and management) for a complex international NGO; knowledge of global health and international development; operating social media management software (i.e. Sprout Social) and social media listening tools; operating earned media monitoring software (i.e. Trendkite) to track and analyze media mentions; greater understanding of how to track and report on media relations and social media metrics.

     

    PROPOSED ACTIVITIES:

     

    • Media and social media monitoring and reporting
    • Preparing media briefs and talking points for interviews
    • Canvassing program teams for updated information to use in pitching efforts and informational materials
    • Assisting with CRM data management for journalist contacts
    • Supporting colleagues in marketing, creative, and events on activities as needed

    Must have legal authorization to work in the United States. PATH does not provide relocation assistance for internships.
