  • Responsibilities

    Manage the maintenance activity for all production and building related equipment for the OSI-Ashland Facility.  Duties include setting and enforcing maintenance policies and procedures, supervising maintenance personnel, and developing and maintaining maintenance budgets.

    • Help develop, organize and administer policies and procedures for the production maintenance department.  These include purchasing policies, training policies, overtime policies, preventive maintenance programs, and inventory control programs.
    • Provide technical assistance and direction to operating groups in order to enhance operator proficiency, develop operator training programs, develop standard operating procedures, and generate standard cleaning methods.
    • Coordinate campus maintenance activities with production and engineering groups.
    • Indirectly manage the performance of production mechanics in the execution of specific jobs involving mechanical, electrical, electronic controls, pneumatic, hydraulic, metal and plastic fabrication, pipe fitting, welding, preventative maintenance, refrigeration, boiler repair, etc., to include assisting personnel when required in these or any other general building repair activities.
    • Procure and direct outside technicians, outside contractors, or original equipment manufacturers as needed to supplement in-house mechanics to insure production equipment runs efficiently.
    • Manage, supervise, and otherwise assist in daily start-up of equipment prior to production runs.  Provide resources as needed to diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform repairs as necessary to insure that processing equipment downtime is maintained at acceptable levels.
    • Set procedures and control maintenance spending to budgeted levels.
    • Hire and manage employment for maintenance positions
    • Manage and maintain inventories of maintenance supplies and reorder repair parts as necessary.
    • Manage the rebuilding and maintenance of electrical controls, motors, and starters.
    • Respond to after-hours emergency repair calls as required.
    • Maintain safe and sanitary working conditions within all the plants and develop safe operating procedures for all plant production equipment.
    • In the absence of maintenance supervisors, approve employee time cards.
    • Organize mechanical training, assist employees, evaluate performance, handle grievances, enforce company rules, maintain employee morale, and recommend compensation and other changes in employee status.
    • Maintain records relating to all maintenance activities and submit to the Facilities Engineer as needed
    • Establish SAP Maintenance module for the OSI-Ashland Facility
    • Establish Maintenance reporting and accountabilities with respect to productivity and progress (PM completions, cost per pound per area, etc.)
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    Required Skills:

    • 7 to 10 years Maintenance Management in a high volume processing or manufacturing facility, preferably in meat industry or other governmental regulated industry such as food, drug or cosmetics.
    • MS office suite proficiency (Word, Excel, and Outlook proficiency min. requirement)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Knowledge of SAP
    • Work is generally performed within a manufacturing environment subjected to temperatures of cold and warm along with wearing the proper PPE, with standard office equipment available along with plant manufacturing environment.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, use hands or finger, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, or controls; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision to a computer screen.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent subject matter expertise, analytical ability, and communication skills acquired through work.
