Nursing Assistant - On-the-Job Training; Start your career in healthcare!!!!
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nursing Assistant is a career pathway position for individuals starting a career in healthcare. NAs receive on the job training while participating in a nationally accredited CNA apprenticeship program. Individuals who successfully complete the apprenticeship program will fill key CNA roles throughout the organization. Boundary Community Hospital partners with North Idaho College through a direct billing program to provide CNA training and certification (Workforce Training Center - Health Careers - Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (nic.edu).
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalency required
· Must have excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to write clearly and legibly on all reports, forms, and written communications used by this position/department and the ability to work well with internal and external patients, customers, and visitors.
· BLS/CPR training/certification preferred, or must be obtained after hire within 3 months.
· Enrollment in the CNA Apprenticeship program through NIC required.
· Must be flexible with their schedule, and able to meet the demands of hospital.
SCHEDULE:
· 36-40 hrs per week; must be available any shift, any day and holidays
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:
· Assists licensed healthcare staff in a variety of ways in the patient care setting, taking direction from staff RN, LPNs, Nurse Managers and other leaders.
· Transports patients to and from service and treatment areas using wheelchairs or moveable beds.
· Provides observation and minimal assistance with a constant focus on safety in the medical and suicidal patient population.
· Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, notification of the licensed nurse when patient behavior/activities change to insure patient safety.
· Attends in classroom CNA training as scheduled.
· Participates in clinical rotations as necessary for the CNA Apprenticeship program.
· Completes all assignments and course requirements for the CNA training by due dates.
· Demonstrates respect and compassion for all patients, patient family members, and staff.
· Demonstrates punctuality and attentiveness to schedule.
· Transports equipment and supplies and delivers them to assigned treatment areas and patient care areas.
· Communicates to appropriate team member's pertinent patient information in order to improve patient outcomes and maintain safety.
· Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, notification of the licensed nurse when patient behavior/activities change to insure patient safety.
· Attends in classroom CNA training as scheduled.
· Promotes positive and effective communication between all team members and hospital staff.
· Demonstrates public relations and customer service skills during direct or telephone contact with patients, families and visitors.
· Completes Care Learning annually and keeps current CPR certification and PPD.
· Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as situations require to maintain Infection Control standards set by the Hospital.
