    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting/sanitation, dusting, odors and the general appearance of their scheduled area. The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining all regulated housekeeping and Infection Control Standards.

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

    High School diploma or GED required & Minimum of one year related work experience

    Proficient in Microsoft Outlook & type 20 wpm

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    Ability to communicate in visual, audio and/or written form.

    Ability to make standard precaution decisions.

    SCHEDULE:

    0 to 40 hrs per week

    Schedule may vary for days, must be able to work one weekend day per week.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:

    Accepts assigned housekeeping area.

    Performs adequate and thorough disinfecting and sanitizing procedures of all horizontal surfaces.

    Meets Infection Control standards.

    Removes/prevents build up on the floors and around the perimeters.

    Dust mops and wet mops floors adequately.

    Removes biohazard and general garbage from rooms/areas according to policy.

    Cleans visible soiling from cabinet fronts and walls when necessary.

    Cleans visible soiling from furniture when necessary.

    Refills toilet paper, paper towel dispensers and soap dispensers as needed.

    Performs adequate bathroom cleaning and sanitation requirements.

    Requisitions supplies for housekeeping closet when appropriate.

    Notifies maintenance of necessary repairs verbally or by repair requisition.

    Recognizes and reports unsafe condition.

    Performs glass and mirror cleaning.

    Performs unit discharge cleaning appropriately and in a timely manner.

    Removes visible debris from carpeted areas when necessary.

    Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to housekeeping pages and/or requests.

    Reports project needs of floor care by housekeeping requisition.

    Addresses patients, visitors and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner.

    Receives and places confidential information with courtesy, accuracy and respect at all times.

    Maintains communication with supervisor for area and/or departmental needs or concerns.

    Cleans and disinfects all door handles, light switches and telephones.

    Dispenses ice melt agent on sidewalks during wintertime condition.

    React properly and follow correct policy and procedure in an emergency and/or disaster.

    Maintains cart and closet area in a clean and tidy manner.

    Follows proper hand washing techniques at appropriate times.

    Uses personal protective equipment as necessary.

    Follows proper glove removal and disposal as necessary.

    Follows established room-cleaning guidelines for all areas.

    Follows established work flow chart for area(s) assigned.

    Removes fall prevention rugs to hall from rooms for floor care.

    Removes fall prevention rugs to hall for vacuuming.

    Replaces fall prevention rugs to exact location it was removed from.

    Mechanical equipment operations, cleaning and safety inspections.

    Places wet floor signs in hall/room entries before wetting floor.

    Promptly removes wet floor signs when floor is dry.

    (does not allow wet floor sign to remain after floor is dry)

    Stores wet floor signs in designated location in each area for following shift to locate easily.

    Leaves housekeeping cart stocked, cleaned and in orderly fashion for following shift.

    The following duty responsibilities may not be applied to all housekeeping personnel. The tasks and/or duties are specifically scheduled assignments.

    Buffing:

    Operates machinery safely and properly.

    Documents finished areas as necessary in chart book.

    Follows departmental buffing procedures.

    Maintains equipment in a clean and non-wasteful manner.

    Observes all areas of the facility for buffing needs.

    Reports to maintenance any malfunctions or possible maintenance needs of equipment.

    Wipes down machine after each use.

    Cleans buffer pads with stripper solution and neutralizing with vinegar after each use.

    Pays close attention to electrical cord placement, not running over cord with machine or causing tripping hazard.

    Returns buffer to proper storage closet in a tidy manner.

    Float:

    Notes duties from chart book on float slip for completion needs that day.

    Adequately documents time duration of each duty on float slips.

    Performs listed float duties as listed in frequency schedule in chart book.

    Adequately documents completed float duties in chart book.

    Provides assistance to other housekeepers when authorized by the Director of Environmental Services.

    Uses good judgement when deciding between urgent and non-urgent housekeeping requests to maintain good workflow.

    Is responsible for organizing time to complete necessary daily, weekly, monthly and annual duties as outlined in the chart book.

    Vacuuming:

    Vacuums assigned areas thoroughly to include corners and edges of carpeted areas.

    Checks and/or replaces vacuum bag before using vacuum.

    Uses vacuum in a safe and efficient manner.

    Pulls on the plug to remove the plug from the outlets.

    Observes cord placement in walkways to prevent tripping.

    Maintains vacuum in a clean and efficient manner.

    Reports to maintenance any malfunction of possible maintenance needs of equipment.

    Reports to the Director of Environmental Services when vacuum bags need to be ordered.

    Maintains assigned area in a clean and orderly fashion.

    Returns vacuum to proper closet in a tidy manner.

    Operates machinery safely and properly.

    Documents finished areas as necessary in chart book.

    Follows departmental carpet cleaning procedures

    Observes all areas of the facility for carpet cleaning needs.

    Empties dirty water tank after each use.

    Empties clean water tank after each use.

    Carefully cleans clean and dirty water holding tanks after use.

    Carefully cleans all removable parts such as lids and filters of machine.

    Wipes down outside of machine after each use.

    Pays close attention to electrical cord placement, not running over cord with machine or causing tripping hazards.

    Reports to maintenance any malfunctions or possible maintenance needs of equipment.

    Returns carpet machine to proper storage closet in tidy manner.

    NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:

    Responsible for sidewalk safety such as sweeping.

    Responsible for proper furniture placement.

    Other job related duties as assigned.
