POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Nurse Assistant is responsible for delivering basic care to patients in a safe and timely manner based on the Policies and Philosophies of the facility. They will be supervised in all aspects of that care.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED required
Graduate of Nurses Aide program, or Current Idaho certification for Nurse Aide
Current CPR certification.
Work experience preferred for verification of attendance and performance.
Minimum 1 year CNA work experience and or 2 yrs EMT experience required.
Good public relations/customer service skills
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and basic computer skills, key board at 20 wpm.
SCHEDULE:
0 - 40 hours per week as directed by ED Manger.
Shift is 10 am – 10 pm including weekends shifts..

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:
Purpose: To define guidelines for CNA scope of practice and role in the Emergency Department
If trained, these skills may be performed by the CNA in the ED while under supervision of the ED RN:
Assisting to transfer patients to/from assigned room
Updating the patient tracker white board
Vital signs including pain level 0 -10 on admission, discharge and as directed by the RN or MD
Orthostatic vital signs
Height/weight
Use of child/infant scale for weight
Recording vital signs, height & weight in electronic record
Assisting patient to don gowns as appropriate
Set up of automatic BP cuff
Placement of pulse oximeter
Set up of monitor for timed vital signs
Set up of central monitor to insure patient’s rhythm can be monitored from the ED & AC nurses stations
Posting of cardiac rhythm strips and timed vital signs on rhythm record
Obtaining and ECG if documented training as per cardiopulmonary
Set up and use of hover mat
Answering the phone. Must honor all HIPAA regulations. Never allowed to give ANY phone advise.
Communications with EMS via EMS radio as per protocol. All medical direction of EMS is ONLY by the physician.
Assisting to prepare rooms for anticipated patients (e.g., cardiac, trauma, etc.)
Clean procedure rooms according to environmental services standards.
Visually inspect rooms and equipment for safety concerns
IV tray set up
Obtaining urine samples
Obtaining stool samples
Delivering specimens to lab
Point of care – with yearly sign-off sheet including:
Urine dipstick for urinalysis
Urine pregnancy
Accucheck/glucose testing
Hemocult
Gastroccult
Assist on Acute Care/ECF during downtimes
Re-stock unit supplies as needed
Correlate procedure charge with actual procedure performed.
Quality assurance documentation
Act in recorder role in code situations if the CNA has completed the code recorder training.
Patient reception to PRE status in the electronic record as directed by H.U.C.
Assisting to maintain C-Spine precautions
Assisting to maintain direct pressure on bleeding sites in situations of no open fracture, step-down deformity or impaled object(s)
CPR compressions if CPR certified
CPR breaths using AMBU bag & O² if CPR certified
Suction of mouth using Yankaur section. Deeper suctioning of throat or E.T. tube is NOT allowed
Bladder scan
Assisting the physician for set-up and/or during procedures such as splinting, casting, eye exams, ear exams, nasal exams, pelvic exams, intubation, spinal taps, chest insertion, I.O. insertion, suturing etc.
Assisting to maintain close observation of patients who are confused, agitated or distraught. Report any concerns to the RN.
Baer hugger set-up and use
Use of carbon monoxide monitor
Application of ice as directed
Assisting in transport and monitoring of patients in X-ray or CT
Assisting patients with toileting/urinal use
Assisting patients with positioning within the guidance of the RN or MD
Assisting to assemble transfer packet paperwork as directed by the HUC
Assisting to assure proper charges are done, including placing charge stickers on charge sheet
Room and equipment cleaning,
Stocking of supplies to PAR level and restocking linen supply
Refilling blanket and fluid warmers
Checking for supply outdates
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as situations require to maintain Infection Control standards set by the Hospital.
NON-ESSTENIAL JOB DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:
Documents in nurses’ notes when and where appropriate pertinent information.
Must be willing to assist in other areas as the need arises.
Stock Supplies.
Attends at least 50% of staff meetings.
Cleans equipment.
Other duties as delegated.
