    Middle School Private Teaching /Tutoring Position This job listing is for a family in need of an in-home teacher part-time in Powell, Ohio. You would be working one-on-one with one student. August 19, 2021- May 24, 2022, with typical school breaks off (will provide set schedule) Monday-Friday, 8:30am-12pm, or as agreed. Roughly 2-3 hours of instruction 5 days a week, or more if needed. We are a family looking for a part-time teacher for our son who will be in the 7th grade for the 21-22 school year. We are looking for a teacher to continue his studies from home for the coming year. About the student: Bright and engaging child who is genuinely curious Likes hands-on projects and learns visually Often prefers to demonstrate his knowledge of a subject in non-traditional ways. Has general anxiety (NOT social), and possibly ADHD, but it has not been diagnosed Young 7th grader (will turn 12 in December) Is very technically oriented Extremely personable and makes friends easily What you will be teaching: 7th Grade Subjects Math ELA Social Studies/History Science Your responsibilities will include: Creating a structure around the curricula to maintain consistency and ability to build on previous knowledge Covering the curriculum in a reasonable amount of time knowing that some subjects and units will take longer than others Provide feedback on the student's progress to both the student and us, his parents. We will provide: Curriculum & necessary materials including a computer and printer for our son to work on A safe, secure learning environment. Note: this will initially be our home, but could possibly be a room in our office. Great pay. No benefits are included. You will be paid for hours worked. Requirements: You must have a valid Teacher's License from the Ohio Department of Education and have completed all of the necessary education and certification requirements You must have at least 5 years of experience with middle school students and curriculum The ideal candidate will have some experience with special education and mild intervention You must complete a background check You must have internet access and a computer to access some curricula and worksheets. We like an electronic system that can be use to help track progress and document completed work. You will NOT be a babysitter. This is an education position and does not require duties beyond working with our son on normal educational capacity. Another adult will be present at all times. You must provide your own transportation. You will be responsible for your own taxes and will work as an independent contractor. Benefits are not included. (This job is ideal for someone who has a spouse with benefits). Qualities we would appreciate: A sense of humor. Creative thinking and creative problem solving A firm but kind demeanor, especially when teaching The ability to help a child build confidence in his skills and abilities Assist the student with executive function skills as it relates to learning: organizing, keeping notes, scheduling, and completing assignments. Flexibility Kindness Timeliness. We value your time and expect you to value ours. Show up on time and as agreed upon. Make any necessary schedule changes ahead of time. Both parents are working, so we will plan the work day around the school schedule, thus prefer to keep a set time each day. Comfortable with dogs Non-smoker. We will not allow smoking/vaping on our property. Why? Our son does not thrive in the large, impersonal world of public school. He needs more attention than he is able to get in that environment. He has attended a school for children who learn differently for the last two years. We have found it not challenging enough and he ends up getting bored. Our son falls between the two programs and we would like to have time to explore his alternatives. We have homeschooled our daughter previously. She is now in a full-time program. We are well-versed in legalities and requirements of homeschooling a child. We are doing this primarily because we want what is best for our son, and that means personalized education. Acceleration where possible, and support when needed. Pay: Commensurate upon education and qualifications, starting at $25/hour and up.
