    Description/Job Summary

    BGMU is recruiting for a Network Specialist to maintain and support the BGMU Fiber optic network. The primary function is to provide support to customers and to maintain daily operations of the BGMU Fiber optic network.     This full-time position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, with rotating on-call that is compensated. Essential duties include:

    • Provide technical support and problem solving skills to BGMU Fiber customers.
    • Assist in the planning of and coordination of existing fiber system design, construction, and operations.
    • Closely monitor and evaluate system performance and troubleshoot problems.
    • Document and maintain detailed records of circuit design, construction, and operations.
    • Provide support for internal network operations of BGMU's fiber network and test circuit on an as needed basis.
    • Research new technologies and upkeep fiber optic network with system upgrades and updates.
    • Meet with internal and external customers as required.
    • Attend training opportunities as needed. Train others as needed.
    • Subject to emergency after-hours availability and on-call rotation.

    Requires knowledge of the application of network technology and network infrastructure, and their concepts, practices and procedures, i.e. Cisco Systems (Router and Switches), TCP/IP, and BGP protocol. Must be able to perform complicated tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, make routine decisions, problem solve in the field and react under emergency situations. Must have knowledge and ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment. Must work well with people in a variety of settings including after-hours trouble situations at customer locations. Requires knowledge of utility policies, safety rules, and state and local laws pertaining to operation of vehicles and equipment. Must be proficient in use of related equipment and must use safe work practices in all areas of work

    Required Qualifications

    • Two-year Associate's Degree in information technologies or information systems engineering.
    • Two (2) years of work experience directly related to information systems and networking.
    • Valid Kentucky driver's license.
    • Warren County, KY residency (if not currently residing, must comply within 6 months of employment)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in information technologies or information systems engineering.
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is preferred, but not required.
