    About the Job

     

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Health Promotion Specialist will lead the development, implementation, management, evaluation, and institutionalization of campus-wide strategies to address student food insecurity and nutrition.

    This position will use a strategic, proactive, and collaborative systems approach to develop and implement coordinated campus-wide strategies that address student food insecurity. This position will coordinate, manage, and evaluate the Nutritious U Food Pantry and associated activities for University of Minnesota. This position will also identify and implement appropriate policy, systems, and environmental change strategies related to nutrition to promote health among University of Minnesota students.

    Annual Salary is $55,000

     

    DETAILED JOB RESPONSIBILITES: 

    Program Management (50%)

    • Operate, evaluate, and improve the Nutritious U Food Pantry 
    • Manage the Nutritious U garden plot on the St. Paul campus
    • Facilitate the Swipe Out Hunger program including maintaining the partnership with Dining Services, the student group, and key campus partners, coordinating marketing of the program, distribution of the meals, and evaluation of the program
    • Coordinate, advise, and evaluate the Student Nutrition Advocacy Collaborative (SNAC) student group to increase nutrition education offerings to students through a peer-to-peer model
    • Co-lead a campus-wide- advisory committee of University and community stakeholders to inform, design, develop, implement, evaluate, and institutionalize efforts to address student food insecurity on campus
    • Serve as a key source of campus information for faculty, staff and students regarding college student food insecurity
    • Lead the recruiting, hiring/selecting, training, and supervising of Nutritious U Food Pantry and SNAC student staff and student volunteers
    • Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively

     

    Systems Change and Strategic Planning (50%)

    • Identify and implement policy, systems, and environmental change strategies to address student food insecurity and nutrition
    • Assess student health needs and monitor trends through the design, collection, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key campus and community partners and stakeholders 
    • Share best practices and resources with other peer institutions as it relates to student food insecurity
    • Coordinate efforts among key campus partners to effectively and systematically connect students experiencing food insecurity to public benefits programs (primarily SNAP)
    • Explore opportunities for policy, systems, and environmental change strategies to promote health through nutrition interventions
