    TITLE: ASES-Funded Behavior Interventionist

    DEPARTMENT: Program

    REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor

    POSITION STATUS: Non-Exempt, Part-time

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor in coordination with the School Site Administrator, assist Club staff in providing support to behaviorally-challenged individuals or small groups of members; will be assigned to various students and schools on an as-needed basis. Performs related work as necessary or required.

    KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

    Prepare Youth for Success

    Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes for special needs members including but not limited to:

    1. Administering one-to-one intensive behavior intervention to students in a school setting.

    2. Implementation of program modifications including behavior plans; and monitoring and assisting members in prescribed learning activities.

    3. Monitoring and observing student conduct and utilizing approved behavior management techniques to redirect and modify inappropriate behaviors.

    4. Creating student support materials.

    5. Maintaining and organizing member behavioral data and reporting progress regarding student performance.

    6. Consulting with Club staff and school personnel regarding individual member’s needs.

    7. Observing Club safety practices and procedures.

    8. Supervising and assisting Club members on the playground, cafeteria, bus loading or other areas, and accompany member(s) to/from these areas.

    9. Assisting members in learning proper personal hygiene and in developing self-help skills.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Operate a variety of technology equipment;

    2. Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and training programs as assigned;

    3. Perform other related duties as assigned.

    RELATIONSHIPS:

    Internal: Maintains close contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instruction; instruct; and advise/counsel.

    External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents/guardians, and others to assist in resolving problems.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    · High school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education (preferred).

    · Pass a rigorous District test related to the field applied.

    · Six months experience as a Para-Educator or some prior experience in working with severely disabled or special needs students, including autism.

    · Knowledge of: Behavior management and techniques used with students with special needs; methods and techniques of learning reinforcement and behavior modification; as well as child guidance principles and practices, especially as they relate to students with learning disabilities, developmental delays, ADHD, emotional disturbance and autistic behavior.

    · Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy, especially as they relate to members and their families.

    · Establish and maintain effective, respectful and cooperative working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, school staff and the public.

    · Communicate effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents especially as they relate to students.

    · Plan and implement quality programs for youth.

    · Organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

    · Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

    · Be aware of surrounding work environment and adapt as needed.

    · Attend trainings regularly to stay current on behavior strategies.

    · Understand the exceptional needs of special education students.

    · Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.

    · Mandatory mandated reporter and abuse prevention training.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    This position is in a loud, fast-paced Club environment, both indoors and outdoors. The model Behavior Interventionist will thrive in an extraordinarily fast-paced environment that features constant change. This position requires employee flexibility, patience and ability to problem-solve and innovate. Employee must be able to work club hours of operation

    This position is very active and requires sight, hearing, bending, kneeling, crouching, standing for more than four hours each day, ability to move quickly throughout facilities, and other physical requirements needed to complete essential functions of the position and other duties as assigned. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

    Hazards of this position include but are not limited to: Aggressive behavior of students and emergency situations; exposure to blood or other bodily fluids.
