    POSITION:Mentor Professional

    LOCATION:Irvine, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, & Orange

    COMPENSATION:$12.00-$13.00/hour based on education and experience

    HOURS PER WEEK:18.25-23 hours/week

    MUST BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE AND PROVIDE AN OPEN/CONSISTENT M-F SCHEDULE UNLESS OTHERWISE APPROVED.

    DAILY HOURS INCLUDE: 2:00 PM - 6:30 PM AND WEDNESDAYS 1:00 PM - 6:30PM

    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    The Mentor Professional role is a temporary assignment that will begin as soon as possible and conclude in June. This role's primary responsibility is to ensure every child has a first-class after school experience. This is done by acting as a positive, engaging adult role model, teacher, coach, and mentor. Mentor Professionals must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe and nurturing environment for the students they teach, inspire, encourage, and impact. Professionals work directly with an assigned group of approximately 20-30 students. This is a part-time, non-exempt position.

    KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supports Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast's mission, “To ensure every child has mentors and champions in life.”
    • Work as a tutor/mentor in an After-School Enrichment Program providing homework assistance, academic enrichment and fitness using curriculum and materials provided by the Boys & Girls Club of Central Orange Coast.
    • Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program through appropriate dress, speech, and attitude.
    • Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging that kids want to be in.
    • Support students in making positive behavior choices and take disciplinary measures when appropriate.
    • Promote positive interactions between parents and students in accordance with child safety guidelines.
    • Maintain student safety by accurately completing and reviewing student attendance sheets.
    • Identify student needs and communicate to the Unit Director, teachers, school administration, and/or parents as appropriate.
    • Participate in staff development and training activities when needed after hours or on weekends.

    JOB SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma and a minimum of 24-48 college units (provide proof upon interview).
    • Have the drive to work with a diverse group of students from different socio-economical backgrounds and levels of educational preparedness.
    • Exhibit the characteristics of strong leadership, patience, and effective communication.
    • Ability to teach Math and English skills (K–5th) or (6th – 8th) & additional subject such as science, biology, chemistry, history, as well as intervention/prevention topics (Preferred, but not required).
    • Time management, planning, and organization skills.
    • Ability to speak and write Standard English appropriate in a public school setting.
    • Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
    • CPR & Basic First Aid certified preferred (provide proof upon interview).
    • Proof of negative TB Test valid within the past 3 years from hire date.
