    Hiring at the following locations:

    • Club Canutillo- 651 Canutillo Avenue, Canutillo, TX

    • Club Clendenin- 2701 Harrison Avenue, El Paso, TX

    • Club Ross- 6101 Hughey Circle, El Paso, TX

    For over 98 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso has helped young people build great futures as productive and responsible citizens. Today, our four Clubs serve nearly two thousand children annually through Club membership and community outreach. We work with students through activities that help them succeed in school and become leaders. Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their goals and we exist to make that dream a reality.

    PRIMARY FUNCTION

    Tutor is responsible for providing targeted homework help and academic assistance in the applicable subject area(s) (Math/ELAR) for youth in a Learning Community Center environment. S/he plays an essential role in ensuring the safety of club members, as well as establishing positive social interactions and maintaining a positive environment. Tutors work collaboratively with the Site Coordinator and school day staff to assist club members with developing academic improvement in specific subject area(s), based on the club’s needs assessment.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    § Meets with students to go over their homework assignments in the applicable subject area(s)

    § Works with Site Coordinator and school day staff to implement relevant and effective curriculum for youth

    § Ask students about specific topics or subject areas that are giving them trouble or warrant further exploration

    § Takes notes during or after tutoring sessions to follow up with the student later

    § Communicates with parents/guardians about trouble areas or any other issue that requires attention

    § Ensures a healthy and safe environment by ensuring facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained

    § Implements BGCA & BGCEP programs, services, and activities to ensure that they meet the stated objectives, as well as the needs and interests of club members

    § Compiles regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation

    § Supports data tracking related to daily activities and meeting grant requirements, when applicable

    § Attends all mandatory staff meetings and staff training regularly

    § Other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator and Project Director

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    § Contributes to the successful execution of the organization’s mission by following the policies and procedures, professional standards, and communication requirements of staff members

    § Instills a sense of sponsorship, teamwork, and fair play in club members, as well as among staff during tutoring

    § Maintains daily contact with club members and provides guidance, mentoring, and role modeling

    § Tracks inventory of tutoring materials for learning and recreation

    SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    § High school diploma or G.E.D

    § Valid Driver’s License

    § English/Spanish capabilities

    § Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written

    § A minimum of one year of work experience with children and youth

    § Experience in planning and supervising activities based on the development needs of young people or equivalent experience

    § Valid State Driver’s License

    § CPR/ AED/ First-Aid Certification

    SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:

    § Bachelor’s in Education or

    § Degree in progress relevant to subject area

The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present.
