  • Responsibilities

    POSITION: Mentor (Part-time, Seasonal 5-10 hours/week)


    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    Provide consistent mentorship and support to youth in the mentoring program through companionship, social, emotional, and developmental support. Engage youth members in activities and programs which enables them to develop self-confidence and reach their full potential as productive, responsible, caring citizens. Encourage relationships and behaviors that will leave a positive impact on youth members, while maintaining an encouraging and safe environment at all times.


    KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):

    1. Responsible for meeting with the assigned mentee or mentees for the agreed upon time-frame and location (typically during school lunch times, or after-school at our Boys and Girls Club program locations)

    2. Maintain case management files on each mentee participating in the mentoring program to ensure grant compliance expectations are met. Tracking forms include but are not limited to: 

      1. Documented discussions and noticeable behavior changes 
      2. Success and progress reports with regards to behavior and mentee challenges 
      3. Academic records and achievements 
      4. Meeting dates and times 
      5. Mentor/mentee application 
      6. Submit quarterly progress reports on all youth in the program as expected by the Club and its Grantors.
    3. Review and follow the “Mentoring with Impact” guide to a successful mentoring program which will be provided by the Club.

    4. Work closely with Club and School staff to determine the needs of each youth

    5. Maintain consistent communication with Club Directors to provide feedback and updates on the progress of individual youth and mentoring program as a whole

    6. Maintain positive and professional relationships with Members, Parents, Club, and School Staff, being mindful that we are a gust while on campus

    7. Maintain positive representation of the Club while mentoring youth at any location (employee dress code and conduct should always be considered)

    8. Mentors should not schedule unplanned meetings with mentees unless otherwise discussed and approved by a supervisor.

    9. Assist with the implementation of designated Site programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes, when necessary.

    10. Maintain mentoring program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members.

    11. Effectively communicate standards of program; ensure program areas are safe and that School and Club Site equipment is maintained in good working condition.

    12. Assist in Site record keeping and grant reporting to be sure compliance expectations are met.

    1. EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS
    • Attend and participate in Staff Training's prior to beginning the mentoring program
    • Submit a separate mentor determination form prior to employment with the Club
    • Follow all School and Club policies and procedures at all times, including the Club’s Code of Conduct, which can be found in the Employee Handbook.
    • Follow the direction given by the Program Director to ensure mentorship expectations are met.
    1. COMMUNICATION
    • Must be able to INFORM important and relevant information to ensure the success of our youth.
    • Must be able to LISTEN to co-workers, parents, youth members and community and other Boys & Girls Club affiliates.
    • Must be able to PRESENT accurate and up-to-date case management files and other relevant information.
    • Must be able to WRITE and compose clear, concise, accurate written documentation and data reports as necessary, including email correspondence.
    1. SUPERVISION & SAFETY
    • Must be able to supervise and keep youth members engaged during program time.
    • Provide sound and reasonable discipline and positive redirection to youth members at necessary times through verbal and written communication
    • Practice and constantly be aware of safe practices like Crisis Management, Emergency Preparedness, CPR and First Aid, etc.
    • Maintain a clean and orderly work space at all times.
    1. OTHER DUTIES AS NECESSARY

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. EXPECTATIONS
    • Must be at least 18 years of age and have valid identification
    • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and the ability to get to and from work at the scheduled times.
    • The Club has a mandatory overtime policy when required. This could extend your workday and/or may require working on Saturdays as needed. You must be available for this type of work schedule.
    • Must have CPR/First Aid Certification upon employment (Adult, Child, Infant preferred) - Must be an in-person training, online certifications will not be accepted. 
    • Ability to organize, supervise, and reinforce positive behavior from members
    • Must pass a background check, TB and drug test.
    • Must obtain Serve Safe Certification as applicable to the site(s).
    1. EDUCATION/SKILLS
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Instructional Aid Qualified
    • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about education.
    • Excellent student interaction skills in 1:1 and small group settings.
    • Meet Staff Training requirements
    1. EXPERIENCE
    • Work experience with a Boys & Girls Club or other youth serving organization
    1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • Maintain a high energy level and positive representation.
    • Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
    • Must be able to work in loud environments and communicate clearly.  
    • Stand for four plus hours per day.
    • Stoop, bend, climb, and walk frequently.
    • Lift up to 40 pounds.
