    The Braille Institute is seeking a mid-level Systems Administrator for their Los Angeles, CA, (90029) location.

    Who is Braille Institute?

    Braille Institute is a non-profit organization whose mission is to positively transform the lives of those with vision loss. We offer a broad range of free programs, classes and services serving thousands of students of all ages helping to demonstrate that vision rehabilitation is a beginning, not an end.

    We serve the community from seven centers, and hundreds of community outreach locations throughout Southern California, and lead popular national programs like Braille Challenge and Cane Quest. Our staff and volunteers understand losing your vision can be scary, but we believe it is not the end of independence but a new way of living.

    About the role:

    The Systems Administrator's duties include maintaining infrastructure devices and cloud solutions, installing and maintaining hardware/software solutions, troubleshooting network, desktop and server issues.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Position is responsible for maintaining efficient operation of multi-user systems. Installs, configures, and performs system integration testing of operating systems and related utilities.
    • Troubleshoots server and system problems. Investigates and resolves issues by installing and applying fixes, patches, and upgrades where appropriate. Documents solutions to problems and updates change management areas for infrastructure solutions.
    • Monitors performance of all backup and recovery operations. Troubleshoots all errors. Monitors server usage and messages. Maintains secure environments for all systems.
    • Researches, evaluates, and recommends new or upgraded system software, hardware, and utilities to maximize system efficiencies.
    • Configures, installs, and supports systems for users, including desktop and peripheral equipment support.
    • Provides technical advice to users.
    • Maintains current knowledge of operating systems, application releases, Office365 environment, internal servers, single sign-on and multifactor solutions, virtual server environment, and related utilities.
    • Maintains security awareness campaigns and manages follow-up on user areas of concern.
    • Monitors IT utilities and tools in areas of responsibility.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge and Education:

    • A four year college degree in a computer related field or the equivalent in additional work experience.
    • Working knowledge of a variety of operating systems and servers supporting a Window’s environments required.
    • Knowledge of systems administration, IT infrastructure solutions administration and client/server applications also required.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Position requires the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical problems in a timely manner.
    • Good customer service skills required.
    • Strong technical skills are required to maintain various systems servers and related infrastructure technologies.

    Experience:

    • Position requires a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in systems analysis/administration in a Windows environment.
    • Experience with PC/MAC configurations, Multi-factor and single sign-on solutions.
    • Desktop support experience also needed.

    Certifications/licenses: Certifications in any of the following areas a plus; Windows, Office365, Exchange server/AD, VMWare, Okta, or Cybersecurity.

    Work Environment: Position works in a hybrid office environment.

    Physical Requirements: Position operates standard office equipment. Requires regular travel to regional offices. Exposure to cold temperatures and noise in the server room also required.

    Braille Institute requires its employees to be “fully vaccinated.” “Fully vaccinated” means having received both shots of a two-dose vaccination series (Pfizer or Moderna) or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine AND having received a booster once booster-eligible, which is 6 months after the second dose for Pfizer or Moderna, or 2 months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
