    Galveston County Health District is looking for a compassionate Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support pregnant and breastfeeding mothers through education, encouragement, and one-on-one counseling. This is your chance to make a meaningful impact on the health of families in our community!

    What You'll Do:
    • Provide one-on-one breastfeeding counseling at WIC clinics, hospitals, and by phone
    • Conduct prenatal and postpartum follow-up calls to support breastfeeding success
    • Educate mothers on breastfeeding techniques, benefits, and problem prevention
    • Address concerns, correct misinformation, and provide ongoing encouragement
    • Identify non-routine breastfeeding issues and make appropriate referrals
    • Weigh and measure infants/children as part of breastfeeding assessments
    • Teach breast pump assembly, use, and cleaning
    • Assist with breast pump issuance, tracking, and inventory reporting
    • Support training of staff and new Peer Counselors
    • Participate in community outreach to promote breastfeeding services
    • Provide additional clinic support as needed
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    What We're Looking For:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Personal breastfeeding experience (breastfed or expressed milk for at least one child)
    • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
    • Strong enthusiasm for educating and supporting mothers
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer service skills
    • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
    • Valid Texas driver's license
    • Ability to complete required WIC and breastfeeding trainings
    • Must comply with immunization and ICS training requirements
    • Must pass background check, MVR check, and drug/alcohol screening
