    POSITION SUMMARY:

    In support of the mission statement of Brenner-Fiedler & Associates Inc., the Controller is responsible for all areas relating to accounting functions and financial reporting. The position must meet tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and financial statements. The Controller is expected to be a highly motivated self-starter with supervisory, review and proofing experience.

    SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

    The Controller is responsible for daily, weekly and monthly accounting tasks and activities.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
    • Prepare financial statement forecasts
    • Oversees the daily accounting activities required to maintain the general ledger. Supervises, directs and reviews the work of the accounting staff.
    • Oversees approval, credit limits and all customer orders released from credit hold.
    • Maintains the general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation and records of all company transactions; Reviews entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers to assure accuracy and controls all changes to chart of accounts.
    • Prepares monthly reconciliations for all accounts; Responsible for monthly and year-end closing of the general ledger including preparation and process of journal entries and financial statements.
    • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy for financial statements.
    • Work with retained CPA firm to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit and tax return.
    • Reconcile Payroll accounts and accruals to maintain accurate records in the general ledger.
    • Develop Department’s Annual Strategic Plan in conjunction with fellow team members and management. Manage monthly to ensure strategic initiatives are met or exceeded by year-end.
    • Coordinate and complete annual audits (Inventory count).
    • Provides timely and complete Income Statements & Balance Sheets to Senior Management each Month End
    • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
    • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
    • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system and a system of controls over accounting transactions
    • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
    • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
    • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
    • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to Senior Management
    • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations

    REPORTS TO:

    Chief Strategy & Business Officer

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supervise Accounting Representatives.

    Perform semi/annual reviews of accounting department staff.

    Oversees training programs and identifies training needs for department staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum five years prior supervisory experience in the accounting/financial reporting areas.
    • Minimum five years of experience in the area of financial statement preparation, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable or the equivalent. Experience working with an automated financial management system.
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Minimum 5- years' experience in accounting/finance.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong knowledge of tax law and accounting principles
    • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Strong verbal and communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to work under pleasure, maintain detailed records, meet deadlines and are able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
    • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
    • Strong experience on Excel and Microsoft Word.
    • Ability to manipulate large amount of data
    • High attention to detail and accuracy

    Brenner-Fiedler will provide computer and workspace.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $75,000.00 to $85,000.00 /year
