    Job Summary :

    The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is responsible to the registered Occupational Therapist that is responsible for the implementation of standards of care for occupational therapy services and for adherence to all conditions outlined in the Service Agreement. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant performs only those services planned, delegated, and supervised by the registered Occupational Therapist.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

    · Follows treatment program and goals for improved patient function as established by the registered occupational therapist. Documents patients response to treatment plan and progress toward establish goals.

    · Participates in teaching new skills or retaining patients in once familiar daily activities that have been lost due to illness or injury, in accordance with organization policy.

    · Collaborate with other team members regarding effective techniques to use for each individual patient.

    · Participates in the ongoing evaluation of patient’s functional status (muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, written and verbal communication skills, self-care ability, work capacity, etc. as delegated by the registered occupational therapist. Participates in the ongoing evaluation of the home environment for hazards barriers to more independent living as delegated by the registered occupational therapist.

    · Complete summaries, progress monitoring and documentation per guidelines.

    · Conduct group therapy sessions as clinically indicated.

    · Use any augmentative device necessary for individual treatment.

    · Complete and maintain necessary records and documentation of sessions on site.

    · Attend staff meetings and care conference meeting as directed.

    · Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    · Associate (Preferred)

    · Previous experience working with the elderly population (preferred)

    · 1-year Clinical Experience (required)

    License/Certifications

    · COTA(Required)

    · Must have graduated from an OT assistant program

    · Possess and Maintains current CPR certification

    · Must be licensed in the State of Iowa

    Additional Responsibilities

    Continuing Educational Requirement

    · Required to complete annual 12-hour in-service training programs (as well as supplemental online education). Failure to complete the 12-hour in-service training program, or any other requirement under internal policies, local, state, or federal law may result in termination.

    · Require to maintain COTA Licensure and CEUs per regulatory compliance.

    Physical Activity Requirements:

    · Lifting- May be called upon to lift equipment or supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. Push/pull requirements of 50 lbs. are common. Occasionally required to carry objects including charts and equipment up to 40 lbs.

    · Other physical requirements – Significant amount to time sitting. May be called upon occasionally to perform twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, or crouching.
