    Job Description

    Brightspeed is looking for an innovative and creative Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Mass Markets, Enterprise & Wholesale, responsible for leading the Legal strategy and support for the Sales and Marketing functions that foster the success of Brightspeed’ s fiber optic high speed broadband growth strategy. This leadership position will report directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer and be the Legal department’s trusted partner for Brightspeed’s Mass Markets, Enterprise, and Wholesale teams. You will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with top executives across the business and you will be responsible for Brightspeed’s customer-facing Consumer, Enterprise (including governmental), and Wholesale contracts, as well as advertising, marketing, distribution, and product development.  

    AS VICE PRESIDENT, DEPUTY GENERAL COUNSEL - MASS MARKETS, ENTERPRISE & WHOLESALE, YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Reviewing and advising on creative strategies, customer communications, terms and conditions, advertising, and marketing materials across all sales and communications channels, ensuring that all communications are clear, concise and have all necessary claim substantiation
    • Ensuring that Brightspeed executes on its mission to deliver a customer experience that makes staying connected simple and easy
    • Negotiating media programs, third-party marketing and distribution agreements, sponsorships, agency-client MSAs and SOWs, digital media, Influencer/talent agreements, and all other strategic marketing agreements, including all applicable IP licensing and content production
    • Providing a deep understanding of legal and business transactions involving creative development and the social media environment, while caring for consumer protection, privacy and data security issues, in collaboration with our Chief Security Officer and Chief Privacy Officer to provide a consistent and compliant approach across the business
    • Providing legal counsel to the Company; assess and effectively manage legal risk, effectively balancing risk against benefits; conduct legal analyses; negotiate legal transactions; and advise business units, including their senior leaders, on strategy and potential legal solutions
    • Managing significant, complex, and high-profile contracts and legal matters through proactively identifying issues and suggesting and implementing solutions
    • Functioning as a strategic partner with business unit and peers to help formulate strategies to promote success and mitigate liabilities
    • Leading and managing attorneys and contract negotiators supporting Brightspeed's Sales teams through drafting and negotiating agreements with Enterprise (including governmental agencies) and Wholesale customers
    • Drafting, and revising as needed, form agreements for the sale of all products and services, including Terms of Service and Master Services Agreements for residential, business and wholesale customers that comply with legal, regulatory and vendor requirements, including all required flow-through terms and conditions
    • Developing efficient processes for managing the review and approvals of sales contracts and all marketing materials

    WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

    • J.D. degree and licensed to practice law by the State Bar in the state where the attorney is located
    • 12+ years of relevant legal experience
    • Leadership skills, including a high-level of energy and motivation and the ability to effectively manage, collaborate with and influence others.
    • Experienced in advising all levels of the organization, with the ability to effectively collaborate across many functional areas with a solutions-oriented approach
    • Have a proven, consistent history of excellent judgment and strong legal skills, excellent drafting skills and a deep understanding of the business; ability to handle negotiations directly; ability to solve problems through innovative and creative strategic thinking
    • Efficiently manage and direct a team handling a high volume of more complicated and material deals with urgency; providing support and guidance where needed for issue resolution
    • Consistently produce work product that demonstrates advanced skills in the following areas: (i) subject matter expertise, (ii) analysis and creativity, (iii) oral and written communications and advocacy, and (iv) client management and acceptance
    • Perceived by colleagues and clients as one who is mature, leads by example, able to build, support, and lead teams - function as a mentor to junior members of the department, and has high potential to continue to develop
    • Ability to lead and advise all levels of the Mass Markets, Enterprise and Wholesale organizations on operational and sales channel issues
    • Experienced in consumer protection laws and consumer sales practices
