    Job Description

    THIS IS PRN POSITION.

    MUST WORK 2 SHIFTS PER MONTH, 1 SHIFT MUST BE A WEEK-END SHIFT, 1 SUMMER HOLIDAY AND 1 WINTER HOLIDAY - EXTRA SHIFTS WHEN AVAILABLE (REFER TO PRN GUIDELIENES)

    Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, incumbent provides delegated resident-centered tasks and assists with shift routines. The Licensed Practical Nurse performs various care activities and related services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents. The licensed Practical Nurse must be able to care for adult and geriatric patients. The functions may not exceed the standards of practice as accorded by licensure.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Provides safe, direct physical care of the resident.

    • Maintains a clean, safe and orderly resident environment by keeping the area clean and disposing of soiled, contaminated items.

    • Reports malfunctioning, broken or hazardous equipment to the supervisor.

    • Observes policies and procedures as demonstrated through performance of procedure and tasks.

    • Conducts and document a thorough assessment of each resident’s medical status upon admission and throughout the resident’s course of treatment.

    • Assists in the development and implementation of an individualized treatment plan for each assigned resident.

    • Completes required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.

    • Oversees care delivery by Geriatric Nursing Assistants.

    • Attends and/or participates in interdisciplinary plan of care meetings regarding resident progress, problems and needs.

    • Acts in compliance with Broadmead’s standards and guidelines.

    • Assesses continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities in order to maintain clinical currency.

    • Adheres to facility policies and procedures and participates in facility quality improvement and safety programs.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of standards of nursing care and emergency protocols.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures and medication administration.

    • General knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

     

    • Completion of an approved course of practical or vocational nursing study

    • Valid license as license practical nurse in Maryland

    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a setting serving the same age/type of resident population served by this facility

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

     

    Additional Information

    ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Ensures optimal clinical care for residents through carefully following nursing procedures and instructions from supervisory staff.
    • Ensures continuity of care for residents by providing medical evaluations and emergency service to those residents in clusters when outpatient staff or RN is unavailable.
    • Performs all duties as detailed in this position description in a professional and competent manner.
    • Ensures that all required in-services are completed on an annual basis as detailed in the Policy and Procedure manual and as required by Licensing and Certification regulations.
    • Satisfactorily completes all competencies testing as required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day

    • Must be able to speak English in an understandable manner

    • Must be able to cope with interruptions, be flexible and a team player

    • Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable those senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met
