JOB SUMMARY:
The Geriatric Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing direct care and simple technical nursing services to residents under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. The Geriatric Nursing Assistant will assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). In conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team, he/she will implement individualized care plans with special emphasis on the rehabilitative, physical, safety and social desires and needs of each resident.
Provides safe, direct physical care of the resident and follows established safety precautions in the performance of all duties (including use of mechanical lift with 2 persons at all times)
Performs documentation timely and accurately on flow sheets and other applicable forms of all delegated and routine healthcare activities
Maintains clean, safe and orderly resident environment by keeping the area clean and disposing of soiled and routine care activities
Provides for overall protection of residents and facility by carefully adhering to Standard Precautions and practices and all other infection control policy and procedures
Reports malfunctioning, broken, or hazardous equipment or conditions to the nurse and/or maintenance
Observes and maintains all Broadmead policies and procedures
Obtains and records accurately vital signs, intake and output, and weighs as ordered
Performs AM/PM care according to current standards of care
Assists residents in activities of daily living i.e. ambulation, toileting, feeding, dressing, bathing according to need, ability and plan of care
Assists nurses, physicians and other interdisciplinary team member by preparing residents for specific procedures/treatments/activities
Observes and communicates to the nurse accurate information regarding resident condition and behavior in a timely manner
Provides information regarding resident needs and problems to the nurse for the purpose of planning care
Making rounds on assigned residents every 2 hours and as needed for the purpose of identifying resident needs such as turning and positioning and checking for continence status
Answers call lights in a timely manner
Distribute fresh ice water each shift
Assists with admitting and discharging and transporting residents
Have resident up, dressed, toileted, and ready for all appointments including but not limited to medical appointments, therapy, daily therapeutic recreation programs
Transports residents in the safest possible manner including but not limited to leg rests on wheel chairs, appropriate assistive devices
Cleans utility rooms, pantry and all other work areas when needed and/or as assigned
Insures optimal clinical care of residents by carefully following nursing procedures
Qualifications
High school diploma equivalent
Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant and Geriatric Nursing Assistant course approved by the state of Maryland
Must maintain a current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a setting serving the same age/type of resident population served by this facility
Possess the ability to communication and deal tactfully with personnel
Must be able to work harmoniously with other personnel
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
Must be able to work independently
Must be knowledgeable in nursing assistant’s duties and use of equipment
Must be able to read, write and speak English in an understandable manner
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to hear, see and speak adequately (with or without accommodations) to perform the essential functions of the job
Ability to perform repetitive movement actions including walking, standing and sitting for long periods of time to adequately perform the essential functions of the job
Ability to be able to lift a minimum for 50 pounds
Ability to work in inside environmental condition
