    JOB STATEMENT:

    Promotes and ensures the smooth day to day operation of the Internal Medicine/Pediatric or Dermatology Departments by assisting the nursing staff and physician with patient care. Patient flow is the highest priority. The Certified Medical Assistant must be aware of the physician schedules for that POD and anticipate need. For example, if the nurse has so many phone calls that she is unable to room patients, the medical assistant needs to take the initiative and room patients without being asked. The medical assistant must be able to increase his or her pace to adjust to the demands of the daily schedule.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    The Following includes the majority of the Medical Assistant’s duties, but is not limited to what is listed below. Discretion of the Clinic Nurse Manger, Administration, and physician can always be invoked and adjusted at any time as required for patient care needs.

    Clerical:

    Organize and distribute documents as appropriate.

    Fax various forms

    Room and Patient Preparation:

    Escorts patients to and from exam rooms as appropriate

    Room patients documenting vital signs, review current medications, and other items accurately in the patients electronic chart

    Prepares exam room with needed equipment for the various exams including cleaning of exam room and equipment on daily/weekly basis.

    Patient Care:

    Assists the physician with any procedures, while maintaining the comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and well-being of the patient

    Administers medications and injection as directed by a physician or nurse. Documents the medication, dose, manufacturer, lot number, and expiration date in the patient’s chart following clinic policy

    Applies orthopedic devices as directed by physician or nurse

    Assists the physician with exams, medical procedures, and treatments,

    Phlebotomy as requested by physician/RN.

    Departmental responsibilities:

    Ability to prioritize and multi-task including assisting other staff, if needed

    Attends and participates in departmental meetings and committees

    Maintains immediate work area in a neat and organized manner

    Orders supplies for self and for area. Helps in keeping adequate stock of medical supplies

    Clean and stocks exam rooms daily

    Keep prescription samples neat and orderly

    Other duties as assigned by clinic nurse manager or RN team leads.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    Current CPR card

    Current Medical Assistant Certification, preferable AAMA credentialed

    High School Diploma or GED

    Highly motivated – self starter

    Attention to detail

    Dedicated to ongoing learning

    Excellent computer skills

    Good command of the spoken and written English language
