    Job Description

    SUMMARY : Assists and relieves attorneys and other legal personnel of administrative and clerical work by performing the following duties:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

    • Draft and prepare legal and non-legal documents (e.g., pleadings, summonses, complaints, motions, subpoenas, general correspondence, etc.)
    • Order medical records
    • Perform other clerical duties such as scheduling hearings and appointments, answering telephones and giving information to callers (as directed and as appropriate requiring discretion)
    • Transcribe, compose and type routine correspondence
    • Read and route incoming mail
    • Maintain document files, including tabbing and indexing litigation files
    • Calendar and docket hearings, appointments and deadlines
    • Confer with court personnel
    • Input attorney time
    • Make travel arrangements
    • Prepare expense reports and process third-party invoices
    • Coordinate the completion of photocopy, fax and messenger requests

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence and memoranda; ability to write simple correspondence

    REASONING ABILITY : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Ability to type a minimum of 75 wpm utilizing current word processing software; ability to use transcription, photocopy, fax and other equipment to complete documents; ability to establish and maintain cordial and courteous working relationships with co-workers, other firm employees and outside contacts in a fast-paced demanding environment.

    Capacity to pick up, leaf through and read books, files and other materials. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
