    Buckingham Search is partnering with a multi-billion-dollar global law firm to find a Human Resources Manager. This person will act as a true generalist focusing on employee relations, performance reviews, onboarding and much for over 500 employees. 

    THINGS TO GET EXCITED ABOUT:

    • Chicago office standard hours: – (35 hour standard work week)
    • Staff employees are eligible for an annual merit bonus and increase every July
    • Chicago staff employees start with 24 days of CLT that accrues over the year (“combined leave time” - same as PTO. Pro-rated the first year) and 8-9 paid holidays.
    • Has two retirement benefits: Defined benefit plan: An annual contribution of 5% of the employee’s salary + other eligible compensation. Vested after 3 years of service. 401k: employees can participate in hire.
    • Commuter benefits: pre-tax benefit of up to $255 per month for transit and up to $255 per month for parking. For employees who use public transportation, subsidizes up to $42 per month.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Human Resources Manager is a trusted advisor responsible for delivering the highest quality of human resources services to employees. This position will oversee a range of human resources functions, including coaching managers, overseeing the performance management processes and acting as a liaison between employees and management. This individual will be responsible for Chicago lawyers and local support staff (paralegals, legal secretaries, docket, library, etc.).

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Build relationships with employees, managers, and lawyers, while developing a postive reputation as a key business partner
    • Counsel managers on talent management, employee development and team building
    • Oversee conflict resolutions, investigations, performance improvement plans and represent the firm at personnel-related hearings
    • Consult with HR leadership and labor lawyer to identify equitable resolutions to mitigate risks
    • Advise leadership on solutions that increase employee engagement, address organizational challenges, and improve the employee experience
    • Manage new employee orientation and the overall onboarding experience
    • Lead staff performance management processes and annual compensation recommendations
    • Lead semi-annual lawyer review process and work closely with the compensation committee to ensure seamless administration
    • Provide guidance to hiring managers and staff recruiting team, develop job descriptions, match market data to jobs, analyze hiring trends and develop equitable offers
    • Educate employees on the firm’s health and wellness offerings including leave benefits, accommodations and wellness work resources; liaison between employee and manager during leave of absence
    • Manage the exit process, conduct exit interviews and analyze data to make recommendations to leadership for continuous improvement
    • Communicate various firm policies and initiatives to staff; respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, accommodations and programs
    • Identify operational enhancements to drive continued efficiencies in delivering services
    • Direct data entry team to process timely and accurate employee status changes in the HRIS system
    • Maintain personnel records and employee relations documentation
    • Keep abreast of HR legislation and trends to ensure best practices and compliance with local, state and federal employment laws and regulations
    • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelors Degree
    • 5+ years overall Human Resources experience
    • 2+ years as Human Resources Management (generalist experience)
    • Strong project management skills
    • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
    • Experience with HRIS databases

    PREFERRED:

    • PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP Certification
    • Experience coaching and advising managers on employee relations
    • Human Resources management experience in a professional services environment
    • People management experience
