    Position Description

    JOB TITLE: Water Resources Coordinator

    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    This is a full-time position within the Natural Resources Department of the Buena Vista Rancheria, under the general direction of the Natural Resources Director. The Water Resources Coordinator works closely with the Natural Director to help identify sources of local water pollution and implement solutions to protect and enhance water quality.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Coordinate water quality monitoring activities for all water quality programs:

    Plan sampling events and track program status

    Obtain supplies/materials and calibrate equipment.

    Coordinate and mobilize field staff.

    Collect samples, and process or transport samples.

    Manage, organize, and analyze field and laboratory data.

    Generate data figures, statistics, and maps.

    Coordinate the annual outreach events including recruiting and training volunteers and presenting results.

    Coordinate watershed and water quality education/outreach activities and events.

    Assist with project implementation/construction as needed (ex. green infrastructure)

    Administrative duties such as tracking budgets, invoicing, writing reports, and drafting grants and proposals as needed.

    Assist in the planning, development, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring of the Tribal water programs.

    Actively seek funding for the continued growth of the Tribal water program

    Assist in the development and review of the QAPP and Tribal Non-point Source Assessment and Management Plan

    Undertaking any other duties assigned or required for any other functions of the Natural Resources Department

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience working with Tribal governments and Native communities.

    Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

    Willingness and ability to perform field duties such as water quality sampling, Best Management Practices installation and inspection.

    Ability to work positively with the Tribal community and co-workers in a conscientious and professional manner.

    Experience with GIS and GPS mapping

    Ability to operate standard computer software applications required of the position.

    Knowledge of EPA environmental programs

    Knowledge of wetland management and monitoring

    Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements

    Ability to work independently and effectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, natural studies, geology, natural resources, or related biological Sciences is desired. A minimum of 2 years combined of education and/or experience performing water and natural resource management duties.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The possession of a State of California Class “C” Valid Driver license is required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    This position primarily requires working in an office environment and

    Physically able to work in the field (climbing in and out of streams, lifting, carrying supplies and equipment etc.) during all seasons.

    Travel will also be required for training, meetings, conferences, and tribal community events.
