Building Automation Engineer - BAS/DDC Controls - Base Salary to 50.00/hour - Reisterstown, MD
Our client, a well-established provider of Building Automation and DDC Controls solutions, is seeking a Building Automation Engineer to support estimating, proposal development, system evaluation, and client coordination activities in the Reisterstown, MD area. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on BAS/DDC controls and HVAC systems knowledge who can independently review plans/specifications, develop controls scopes and estimates, and support commercial and institutional building automation projects.
This company supports BAS/DDC automation controls platforms including Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Tridium Niagara, Distech, Alerton, ALC, and Delta Controls across healthcare, laboratory, data center, government, and commercial facilities.
This is primarily an in-office position with standard Monday-Friday business hours. Occasional site visits may be required for project walkthroughs and scope clarification. Hybrid scheduling options may become available after onboarding and training.
Responsibilities:
Review plans, specifications, controls drawings, and bid documents to identify and qualify project opportunities
Develop cost estimates, controls scopes, pricing proposals, and bid packages for BAS/DDC controls projects
Interpret HVAC systems and sequences of operation for airside and hydronic systems
Perform occasional site walkthroughs to verify field conditions and support estimating accuracy
Communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal personnel regarding scope, pricing, schedules, and technical requirements
Prepare proposal documents including scope narratives, pricing breakdowns, alternates, and exclusions
Solicit, compare, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations
Coordinate with mechanical contractors, equipment vendors, and facility personnel regarding existing systems and integration requirements
Maintain CRM activity, estimating records, and proposal documentation
Support project turnover meetings by communicating scope assumptions, risks, and project details
Build and maintain relationships with contractors, facility personnel, vendors, and existing customers
Identify new project opportunities through bid lists, sales publications, and customer outreach
Participate in technical training and project coordination meetings
Manage multiple bid opportunities and proposal deadlines simultaneously
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience with BAS/DDC controls, HVAC systems, and/or mechanical construction environments
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, controls drawings, points lists, and bid documents
Strong understanding of HVAC systems including RTUs, AHUs, VAV systems, boilers, chillers, hydronic systems, and related controls applications
Experience developing controls scopes, estimates, bids, and technical proposals
Understanding of BAS sequences of operation and coordination with mechanical contractors and equipment vendors
Experience with retrofit and/or new construction projects
Ability to identify scope gaps, ask technical questions, and support bid clarification efforts
Ability to manage multiple projects and proposal opportunities simultaneously
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Bluebeam, estimating software/tools, CRM platforms, and major BAS platforms
Ability to occasionally travel to local project sites for walkthroughs and meetings
Compensation:
Base pay in the 40.00/hour – 50.00/hour range
$1,000 signing bonus (half in 1st paycheck, half after 90 days)
