  • Responsibilities

    International architecture firm with offices in San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland is looking for a Design Director to join their growing Sciences practice. The ideal candidate will have past experience in leading the design of major facilities at an office- or company-wide level, including pharmaceutical, biomedical, laboratory, and research and development (R&D) companies.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design lead for all projects within the Life Sciences practice, including laboratory planning
    • Lead projects with a focus on sustainability and fresh approaches that still meet project goals and requirements
    • Provide guidance to other designers
    • Be the main point-of-contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and other related agencies
    • Be a mentor to other designers and staff in their own professional growth
    • Work with regional leadership in Business Development efforts to grow the Life Sciences practice
    • Engage in professional activities, including presenting at professional conferences, writing articles and other publications, and engaging on social media

    Qualifications:

    • 15 years of experience minimum, with 10 years of progressive experience in leading the design of lab and life sciences facilities
    • Registered Architects with LEED certification and Revit skills preferred
    • Experience in ideating creative and sustainable solutions to difficult technical problems within the life sciences market
    • Ability to manage teams through the entire life cycle of a project
    • Excellent client interfacing skills
    • Experience with business development

    This position is remote until it is safe to reopen offices according to CDC guidelines. Candidates can work out of SF, Oakland, San Jose once company resumes in-office work.
