    Job Summary:

    The Building & Tool Room Maintenance Assistant is a hands-on support role that bridges the daily operational needs of both the facility maintenance team and the Tool Room (Innovation Center). This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined individual who enjoys variety, troubleshooting, and working collaboratively across departments to ensure production continuity and project efficiency.

    Key Responsibilities

    Building & Facilities Support (50%):

    • Assist with general building maintenance including minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and lighting repairs.
    • Perform daily walkthroughs to identify and address maintenance needs.
    • Assist with seasonal facility upkeep (e.g., snow removal, landscaping support, exterior inspections).
    • Help maintain clean, safe, and compliant work environments across all departments.
    • Support the installation, relocation, or removal of equipment and fixtures.
    • Respond to urgent repair or cleanup requests promptly and professionally.

    Tool Room & Innovation Center Support (50%):

    • Assist toolmakers, technicians, and innovation staff with setup, teardown, and prep for prototyping or machine modifications.
    • Perform light machining tasks, deburring, grinding, or assembly under supervision.
    • Help with receiving, organizing, and maintaining tool crib and material inventories.
    • Support the documentation and labeling of parts, projects, and fixtures in progress.
    • Act as a secondary set of hands during tool builds, test runs, or troubleshooting sessions.
    • Assist with cleanliness, organization, and safety compliance in the Tool Room area.

    General Duties:

    • Participate in cross-training and collaborative improvement projects as directed.
    • Record time and work completed accurately via digital or manual logs.
    • Communicate material shortages, hazards, or inefficiencies to supervisors.
    • Uphold Midstate Spring's safety policies and team-oriented culture.
    • Attend maintenance or innovation team meetings and training as needed.

    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training a plus.
    • 1 - 3 years of general maintenance, facilities, or shop floor experience preferred.
    • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand/power tools.
    • Ability to read tape measures, basic blueprints, or mechanical drawings is helpful.
    • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain) required.
    • Strong work ethic, flexibility, and a safety-first mindset.

    Standing: 55%

    Walking: 30%

    Sitting: 15%

    Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and working in varying shop/facility environments.

    Occasionally required to climb ladders or access equipment in tight or elevated spaces.
