Business Broker / M&A Advisor — Northern & Central New Jersey / Must be New Jersey-based
Transworld Ascend represents owners of privately held New Jersey companies in selling their businesses. We're adding advisors who want to build a practice, not take a job.
Commission split: 50% of gross fees to the advisor on the first $100,000 generated in a calendar year, 60% on everything above that. The 60% applies to the increment, not retroactively.
Typical engagements are with businesses in the $750K–$5M revenue range. Fees are generally 8–12% of transaction value, with a minimum fee of $25,000.
For example, a business with $2M in revenue and $500K in seller's discretionary earnings might sell for 3x earnings, or $1,500,000. At a 10% fee, that transaction generates $150,000 in gross fees. If it's the advisor's first closing of the year, they take home $80,000 — $50,000 on the first $100,000, and $30,000 on the remaining $50,000. Every dollar generated after that in the same year is at 60%.
What it takes to get there. This is a 1099, commission-only practice. First closings typically land 12–18 months out, because engagements run 9–12 months from signed listing to close, and you have to originate them first. Advisors who succeed here start with enough personal runway to cover that period without this income, and the temperament to build a pipeline from nothing. If that's not your situation right now, this isn't the right time, and we'd rather say so here than four months in.
The work
The job is roughly three things at once: originating engagements, doing the analytical work to position a business for sale, and managing a transaction from listing through close. Day-to-day, that looks like:
Finding and winning sell-side engagements
Building referral relationships with CPAs, attorneys, commercial bankers, and wealth advisors
Meeting with owners, reviewing financials, and working through valuation positioning
Preparing and confidentially marketing businesses for sale
Screening and qualifying buyers
Negotiating terms and deal structure
Coordinating diligence, financing, and closing
You generate most of your own business. Company-generated inquiries and house leads exist and are assigned as available, but they supplement your own origination — they don't substitute for it. Anyone who tells you otherwise about a brokerage role is selling you something.

Who tends to do well here
Advisors who succeed in this business are usually people who have already sold something complicated to a business owner and have a network they can call on. Common backgrounds include B2B or consultative sales, commercial banking and lending, wealth management, commercial real estate, accounting, law, consulting, and prior business ownership or executive leadership.
Prior brokerage experience helps but isn't required. A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required. No real estate or securities license is required for this role in New Jersey.
What matters more:
You are comfortable prospecting and asking for the business
You can read a P&L and a balance sheet and understand what they say about a company
You can hold a confidence, without exception
You can manage several relationships and live transactions at once without dropping things
You want to build a practice over years, not close a few deals and move on
To apply Send a resume and a short note on why you're interested. If your background fits and you're New Jersey-based, we'll set up an initial conversation to walk through the commission structure, the ramp-up period, and what your first year would realistically look like.
