POSITION SUMMARY
The Business and Financial Analyst (Junior) will provide critical support to the DHS Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate’s Finance and Budget Division. Working under the guidance of senior analysts and federal staff, this position is ideal for an early-career professional eager to apply foundational financial knowledge in a federal environment. The analyst will support a range of financial operations, with emphasis on reimbursable agreements, travel program assistance, and financial reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the evaluation and documentation of financial processes and standard operating procedures.
- Support reconciliations for reimbursable agreements and internal/external reporting activities.
- Help identify and resolve financial discrepancies related to funds, trading partners, and accounts.
- Assist in processing travel authorizations, expense reports, and compliance reviews.
- Support the administration of the ConcurGov travel system and help with training documentation.
- Perform quality checks for compliance with Federal Travel Regulations.
- Monitor and analyze program expenditures for purchase, travel, and fleet cards.
- Assist with audits and training efforts related to the GSA SmartPay program.
- Provide research support for event planning, policy compliance, and reporting.
- Contribute to financial presentations, dashboards, and budget tracking tools.
- Support response to data calls, audits, and internal control assessments.
- Help maintain records management documentation per DHS and National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) standards.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
- 3 to 10 years of relevant professional experience in financial management, business analysis, or public sector support.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a government public trust level clearance.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and in team settings.
PREFERRED
- Familiarity with federal financial systems and regulations (e.g., FTR, FAR, OMB Circular A-123).
- Experience with ConcurGov, STATS, or federal accounting systems (FFMS, WebView).
- Exposure to federal budgeting, accounting, or audit support processes.
