    Job Description

    POSITION PURPOSE

    The Human Resource Generalist will have a generalist background, but focus on training, employee development and safety programs.  A guidance to employees on company policies, employee relations, compliance issues, onboarding, safety, performance management, and all training and development needs. The HR Generalist will seek out opportunities to increase employee engagement and satisfaction, will lead, collaborate and/or assist on multiple project initiatives aligned with the company objectives and growth.

    POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Essential functions include but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This includes all aspects of safety training, machine operations, forklift and boom lift training, and certifications. 
    • Assess and administer the recruiting/hiring process to include advertising, sourcing candidates, the application process, interviewing, background checks, confidentiality agreements and employment offers.   Maintain a successful pipeline of candidates for future needs.
    • Handle initial new associate on-boarding program including orientation and new hire training.
    • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
    • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
    • Verify I-9 documentation and ensures accuracy and fairness in recordkeeping.
    • Create, maintain and update associate files. 
    • Oversee the time keeping program and maintain attendance and PTO records in electronic files and associate files. Including attendance awards.
    • Create and maintain safety program including managing safety committee and meetings.
    • Assist in creating, maintaining, updating and managing associate recognition programs.
    • Maintain OSHA Log and maintain Incident/Injury reporting and investigations.
    • Assist in the planning and hosting of meetings and other company functions and events.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS

    • Create and update training programs for associates of all levels.  Process certificates and licenses and document training sessions as applicable.
    • Back up for front desk when needed
    • Schedule and coordinate annual hearing tests.
    • Keep forms and files updated and conduct audits to ensure accuracy in recordkeeping.
    • Handle special projects as needed.  For instance, investigate sources, obtain quotes or bids, negotiate process and gather information on company needs such as associate recognition programs.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES

    • Not applicable but must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • High school diploma or GED and three (3) to five (5) years’ experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • At least two (2) year of Human Resource, Safety and Training management experience preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    • Superior ability to interact and communicate well with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in groups, at all levels of education, in person and on the phone.
    • Ability to write, create, edit and proof information and articles from individually prepared materials or from material received from other sources.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    • Above average ability to carry out mathematical computations in order to calculate figures related to attendance and payroll.

    TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS

    Proficient computer skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and e-mail programs. Experience with data base management software helpful.

    • Skilled in generating spreadsheets, letters and forms.
    • Capable of operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Superior ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Capable of working with multiple managers and personalities simultaneously.
    • Exceptional ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all levels of associates.
    • Remain open to others’ ideas and exhibit a willingness to try to things.
