BUTTERFLY PAVILION IS SEEKING A CREATIVE, HIGHLY MOTIVATED AND ENERGETIC INDIVIDUAL TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT PROGRAMS FOR LEARNERS OF ALL AGES. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE SEEKING HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, SOCIAL WORK, CONSERVATION, INFORMAL SCIENCE EDUCATION, BIOLOGY, AND INTERPRETATION.
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: Butterfly Pavilion is the first stand-alone, Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited non-profit invertebrate zoo in the world and a leader in invertebrate knowledge, inspiration and connection. Whether it is providing unique, hands-on learning experiences in our exhibits and educational programs, conducting new research that sets the standard for zoos across the country or building innovative solutions for species and habitat conservation in countries around the world, Butterfly Pavilion is leading the way in ensuring invertebrates are protected for the future.
MISSION: To foster an appreciation of invertebrates by educating the public about the need to protect and care for threatened habitats globally, while conducting research for solutions in invertebrate conservation.
KEY DUTIES & ACTIVITIES:
Be a knowledgeable and friendly face while representing Butterfly Pavilion in the community at local events, fairs, and booths as requested
Instruct interactive, creative, age-appropriate onsite classes youth groups, camps, school groups, and seniors
Understand and assist in program and guest evaluation
Assist and implement immersive experiences for adult learners from yoga, to photography, to art classes!
Provide administrative support to the Programs, Interpretation, and Exhibits (PIE) Department.
Build capacity through marketing channels to increase awareness of Butterfly Pavilion programs.
Provide exhibit interpretation & animal handling to provide interpretive support in exhibits.
Facilitate play-based learning and providing educational information to guests of all ages.
Utilize live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to guests.
Create meaningful interaction between the exhibit and guests for a deeper and more thoughtful experience and to make connections between exhibit topic, conservation and daily life.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
REPORTS TO: Director of Community Engagement
DIRECT REPORTS TO: Interpretation Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and/or Evaluation Coordinator, based on project/semester needs
DURATION OF INTERNSHIP: 3-4 months, dependent on season and credit requirements, 250 hour minimum internship hours completed.
HOURS PER WEEK: 16-24 hours per week, weekend & evening work will be included.
STIPEND: Unpaid; school credit can be earned for this internship in most cases.
