Smith Industries LLC is seeking a Buyer to support procurement efforts for our growing Data Center projects.. This role is ideal for candidates with a Mechanical or Industrial Engineering background, including recent graduates, who are interested in applying their technical knowledge in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with engineering, operations, and vendors to drive efficient sourcing decisions, support production needs, and optimize cost, quality, and delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
Follow all company safety policies and procedures; properly wear required PPE and immediately report any incidents, accidents, or unsafe conditions. Exercise Stop Work Authority when necessary and participate in job planning and hazard recognition (JSA).
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to understand material specifications, technical requirements, and production timelines.
Communicate with vendors to obtain pricing, availability, and delivery information for materials and equipment.
Review and process purchase requisitions; expedite orders to support production schedules and minimize downtime.
Analyze quotes and market data to support cost optimization and value-based purchasing decisions.
Assist in evaluating suppliers based on quality, reliability, and performance metrics.
Support sourcing strategies, including competitive bidding and vendor selection.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement, inventory, and supply chain efficiency.
Maintain accurate procurement records, including cost, delivery performance, and supplier data.
Monitor market trends, material availability, and supply chain risks to proactively support operations.
Procure materials, equipment, tools, and components required for manufacturing and project execution.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in supply chain, manufacturing, or operations
Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams
High attention to detail, organization, and sense of urgency
Proficiency in Excel or data analysis tools is a plus
